repro grill surrounds
I was wondering if these repro surrounds are annodized like the factory ones? I have the one without the "Chevrolet" stamped into it.
Any tips on keeping this part looking good? $300 is alot of money to neglect and this part takes alot of abuse on a truck. ------------------ 63 Impala*66 Chevelle SS*69 Chevelle*69 C10 Stepside*71 Cheyenne 20*72 Chevelle Parts for sale: http://www.angelfire.com/trek/mr409/items4sale.html

Hey Bob,
They are anadized I think. This is an original that I had polished last week to look like chrome. It turned out great!. My dad picked it up a junk yard with the insert cheap. The guy who polished this even took out small dents it had in it. Excellent work. He's at www.starquestrims.com. [This message has been edited by 70c10 (edited May 16, 2002).]

Yes the reproduction grills are annodized. 70c-10 how much did starquest charge you to pollish your grill? Also did they re-anodize it when they were done? If not you will have to pollish it a couple of times a year to keep the shine. Bare aluminum does not hold a shine for long when it is exposed to the eliments. WES www.ClassicHeartbeat.com

Hey Guys,
I work for the same company as the guy's wife so he charged me $80. I don't know what he normally charges. I guess it depends on the condition of the grille. This one was actually a faint shade of yellow discoloration. It had little dents and tons of scratches. I wish I took a Before pic to show how bad it looked originally. I'm considering giving him my 2 year old grille to polish because I like the Chrome-Look. He doesn't do any anodizing. I asked him if I should clear coat it and he said no because the front of the truck takes too much abuse from stones and could possibly oxidize under the clear. He said just use wheel polish with a rag when necessary. My father still has to repaint the black parts in the grooves and lettering. All of that paint was removed during the process. Now my dad needs to get a new chrome bumper to really compliment the grille!. I would highly reccomend this instead of painting it silver. I'm lazy! I took mine to my chromeplater. He charged me 150.00 to completely chrome it. Held up fine till I hit a coyote one night. Now I need a grille and a new surround.

Thanks Wes. I was hoping so.
Anyone have any tips on maintaining this part? Maybe car wax occasionally. I know that im not going to be following any vehicles too closely. I don't want any stone pits. This thing looks great! It's 1969 all over again here.
