Something my dad taught me when I was a kid
Never walk up behind somebody when they are using power tools. My wife and daughter have done that and startled the hell out of me!. I always tell them to either page me on the intercom or knock on the door or wait until I stop, grinding, drilling, etc. Sounds simple but I hate that feeling especially when I'm cutting something that needs to be precise and it gets messed up because of being startled. Lately I've been real careful about wearing eye protection too!

i can relate to that you get all zoned in on whatever your doing and concentrating not paying attention to anything around you then some jerk wants to come up and disrupt.regardless of messing up the piece of material its a good way to lose a finger or worse

That is good advise.I was kind of impressed with my wife, she's knocked on the door or waited till the tool stopped running from day one.

My dog and cats are usually close by and they act like Vigilantes out on dawn patrol, so I can usually tell if someone is around.....lol
Altough Some make you spin, you can tell someone is around.

Re: Something my dad taught me when I was a kid
I got cured of that at a young age. I walked up behind a guy using a torch and startled him. He turned so quick with the torch in his hand it almost burned me. Now I wait until someone's finished.

Re: Something my dad taught me when I was a kid
That's a very big issue with me at work. I work in a cabinet shop with about 20 guys. Anytime there is a new guy hired; delivery drivers, installers, etc. that is one of thefirst things impressed upon them. Also to be aware of in-feed/out-feed areas of tablesaws, router tables etc. Having someone bump the end of a board while working with these tools is very dangerous.
Cutting off the power???............I can't even imagine I respect your fingers as much as my own and would appreciate the same from you.....but I won't bet my fingers on it. |

I THINK THE WORST IS WHEN YOU TURN AROUND AND SOME ONE IS STANDING THERE I HATE THAT!!THEY WILL WAIT TILL YOU STOPPED AND YELL THEN YOU JUMP OUT OF YOUR SHOES. BUT WHAT ARE FRIEND'S FOR!!!!! TO KEEP YOU ON YOUR TOES ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES HAD METAL TAKEN OUT 3 TIMES ITS NOT FUN GETTING YOUR EYEBALL DRILLED ON SAFETY FIRST GOOD THREAD
