Is this the original rear end?
I was told today that chevy didn't have a rear loader 10 bolt rear end until 63. Is this true? If so can any one ID this rear end. I'm going to look for some numbers. Maybe that will help.
Thanks

Re: Is this the original rear end?
It looks right to me. I know pre-54's had enclosed driveshaft but the diff cover looks the same. I believe all the way up to 62. Your's looks original to me..

Re: Is this the original rear end?
i have a 58' longbox that has a similar rear much too my surprise. it turned out to be a optional dana 44 rearend. its a parts truck and i was going to use the center section in my 54' burb' and found out it was useless to me. checked 3 other trucks i had available for parts and they all had the same rearend. bummer dude!

Re: Is this the original rear end?
That rear is correct for the year. Its not a rear loader. Its like the ford pumpkin but had a bolt on rear cover.
