Wiper Delay?

Rather than reinvent the wheel I would like to hear what has been done to create a wiper delay system for the 67-72s that looks factory.

When i had my 72, I put in a cheapo delay wiper controller and mounted it up under the dash. It was facing down from the dash , so that no one could see it.

Putter made a wiper delay module for our trucks. I think they sell it at Brothers, possibly elsewhere.

Doesn't show a switch for our trucks. Feel free to use the FAQ link to build your own, but both the inventor and distributor are board members in good standing so they get the nod from me. Besides Putter is building a house and needs the money.

Just try sourcing that switch for less than $70.00. Then you have to figure out the wiring & relays & such... Worth the added cost to me to have it plug & play.

I have Putter's setup purchased through Carolina Classic. It is expensive, but nice!

The issue most delay kits have, and Cole Hersey is no exception, is that they supply 12v positive from the switch, and our trucks require ground to the harness to make the wipers/washer function.

If you look at the thread in the FAQ section, I did not invent this. I just started making them in kit form for those who choose not to jump in there and build them from scratch, and risk frying a $70 switch.

As to the cost, the switches unmodified, naked switches run in the $70 range, plus shipping. Add to that 3 external relays, 3 relay sockets, wiring (since you can not use pre-wired sockets), solder, heat-shrink tubing, split-loom, detailed full-color instructions, and customer support provided by the actual guy who assembles them (and I speak Mississippian.....not Thai). I have made dozens of these and have finally go the process down to one hour each to create. My first one took a few hours.

Can you build it yourself cheaper? Absolutely. I am totally for doing-it-yourself. I have even helped board members who were going-it-alone and building their own. These are not copyright protected, nor are they registered, or have a patent-pending. I have a full time job, and a part time job, so these switches provide just a little extra 'fun money' from time to time. I do this as a favor to those who can't/won't.
I can most likely create a Wendy's combo meal cheaper at home, too....but since I don't do that everyday, the setup and cleanup is a booger.

Just so everyone knows, I am working on the new generation switch now. It will do away with those external relays and be even easier to install. I will let you know when they are ready. Heck, I may find a way to get the price down, too, since the process will change and be less labor-intensive.

With that said, I have let Ryan @ Carolina Classic know that we have 5 more switches remaining in stock. After those are gone, I will not be creating any new switches with the old configuration. I will focus on the new method. I have no idea what the turn-around time is on those. I have contacted Cole Hersey and they will not make the switch I want unless I could sell 1000/month....so I have to make them from scratch.

Well, no dash mods are required with the current switch if you are using a stock-type bezel. If you have one of the aluminum ones, you have to trim some lip.
For the new ones, I am hoping to get all the relay switching moved to the inside. It will be tricky, but I think it can be done. I have already destroyed one switch ($70) working on it....hope I can get the bugs gone without trashing too many more.
For some odd reason, Cole Hersey won't honor the warranty if you crack them open and jab them with a soldering gun!!!

I'm going to start following this thread. I could use a wiper delay in the pacific NW. Can ya make them with the factory knob on them?

Putter's instructions describe how to put your factory knob on the current generation wiper delay. It is easy--just drill the hole in the knob up slightly. I have the factory knob on mine so you can't tell it isn't stock.

Uhhh..... As of 12:30p, make that 4 in stock .
