I'm almost done installing my Painless harness in my 72 Chevy, but I ran into a bit of a problem. I have installed a van tilt, but never put the neutral safety block on it, as I was not sure where it went or how it attached. Is this also where the backup lights attach? Also, there is a single black wire sticking out of the tilt shroud, is this just a ground? Any help would be great, as right now I'm stumped. Thanks!

The neutral safety switch needs to be moved downward from the van tilt position. If you locate a truck switch in the same position as the original column it will work provided you install a small tab on the shift tube.

The backup lights attach to the neutral safety switch.

The single wire is probably the indicator light . (The tilts that I have seen have a gray wire for the indicator lights).

So, how do I go about moving it downward? I'm not even sure where it originally connected, as all the parts for the column came in a bag. Do I need to cut a slot in the column tube to make this work, or how exactly does the column slide the switch back and forth? Also, there are 4 terminals on this switch, but none of them are labelled, which one does which wire connect to? Any help at all would be great. Thanks!

Thanks for the help John. Just a couple things I can't tell in the picture. When cutting the inside tube, it says that the 3/8" wide cut must be 1/16" off center, but in which direction, and is that 1/16" off the switch being centered on the line, or on either side of the line?

Also, what wire goes where on the switch?

Heres another thread with some wiring instructions. The 12ga. purple are for neutral start and the backup wires are green I think.
