Thinking about getting a 62

I'm thinking about trading my 65 lincoln for a 62 chevy.

The car isnt as nice as it might look in the picture and the truck is nicer than it looks. The truck has a 350/th400, disc brakes, nice interior and air bags FBSS.
What do you guys think? Is there anything that I should know about 62's? Are parts interchangeable with 62-65's?

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

I like em both. That being said, I would take the truck. But I have 7 trucks and am partial to GM products so my choice is easy.

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

Value wise I think they have pretty similiar prices, the truck might be worth a little more, based on the descriptions and years.

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

Parts for 60-63 truck are harder to get than the 64-66 models. That being said I have a 1966 Mercury Parklane and finding parts for it is like pulling teeth. I just don't know how to compare the Lincoln and the truck, hell get em both and go broke bying parts like me haha.

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

I like the Lincoln, but then I already have a truck! The Lincoln looks like it would be a great candidate for West Cost Customs As far as Value, I would think the Lincoln fixed up would be worth a little more then the truck, beings the Lincoln with the suicide doors are a little more rare. As far as usefulness, the truck wins hands down.

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

They are both nice rides. How did they bag the front ? Did they use the same crossmember, or change it out ??

I just noticed your in LODI....I go out there all the time. My second wherehouse is right off of Turner & 99.

The Lincoln is tite...You can always bag the Lincoln too....What conditon is the drivetrain of both vehicles ??

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

I tend to lean towards the truck (gee I wonder why), no seriously, and like jchav i havent had any problems finding parts specific to 60-62 trucks. If you get it and need any leads on oem used parts PM me.

I'm not sure if they changed the crossmember. Does it make a difference? The tranny needs to be rebuilt in the Lincoln, the truck runs great. What kind of warehouse?

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

scraper

just read your post after posting one of my own. (look up a couple of threads). I also have a '62 truck. I bought it pretty close to stock as a daily driver when I was 20. Once I was done driving it, I parked it and have have been making plans in my head ever since. These are the bumps in the road i've found so far.

The front end is/was torsion bars. (not sure if on all models, mine at least). For me to upgrade the front end, i need a donor crossmember. You said you have bags, so something must have been done.

There is a big X in the frame. This changed in 63 (or is it 64). The X was eliminated and regular front and rear crossmembers are used. This X is a hinderance to modifications, and therefore there are not alot of bolt on installations available for our year truck. If you look at ART, everything starts at 63 and goes up from there. Even for simple trailing arms (stock rear suspension on 62 as well as 63+), the parts are only advertised as 63 and later. I'm not sure if they would work or not.

Remedy... frame swap?? (see my post)

Don't take my word for gospel, this is just what i've picked up from lurking for a while. I'm trying to learn as much about this year as I can (obvious interest).

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

they both cool, in the end the lincoln will probably be worth more, BUT, the truck has alot of things going for it. Bags, disc brakes, 350 engine, 400 tranny and it looks pretty straight. It really depends on what your planning to do, if your on a budget the truck is probably closer to being done. Or think of it like this, Cruise with the family, a car load of homies, do a chick in the back seat, etc keep the car...
haul stuff from home depot, throw a motorcycle in the back, take a barbeque to the park, etc keep the truck.

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

Thanks for all the advice, I'll have to ask how the front was bagged. Is it possible that he put new control arms that were off a coil sprung truck and added the airbags? Do newer model control arms bolt right up?

Re: Thinking about getting a 62

I looked under SlepySals....and you could easily bag one of those truck (62-older) very simply WITHOUT changing out the Xmemeber.....the area of the xmember (where you would have spring pockets) is flat, almost ready to except bags.

Anyway...I was just curious.

Man all that Lincoln needs now are front and rear Lambos.....Imagine that..rear suicide Lambos !!! SICK !!!!
