Would this tranny bolt up to my 61 4x4 hydrolic clutch bell housing? Thanks, Jeremy.

you will likely have to bore out the input bearing hole in the bellhousing, 465 is bigger than any other.

Re: sm 465 & 205

we built a 63 for my nephew several years ago, used a trans/t-case out of a 73 3/4 ton-sm465/205- dana 44 disc front, 12 bolt rear, power steering, power brakes. he drove up friday after work in a 2wd and drove home sunday night in a 4wd. we had the complete chassis built and swapped the body over, took it to the muffler shop i work in for new duals and he headed home. he's put well over 100k miles on it since. everything worked out great for him.

Thanks for the reply. You wouldn't happen to know what the size of the input bearing is?

Re: sm 465 & 205

Info from the NOVAK website:

The SM465 has a 1-1/8" diameter, ten spline input shaft that has a stick-out of 6-1/2" from the front face of the transmission. The pilot tip of the transmission measures .59". The front bearing retainer flange measures an unusually large 5-1/8" in diameter and the bearing retainer tube is 1-3/8" in diameter. The front bolt pattern is the consistent GM Muncie / Saginaw four-bolt pattern as found on GM bellhousings and transmissions from the 1940's through the 1990's.

The SM420 has a 1-1/8" diameter, ten spline input shaft that has a stick-out of 6-1/2" from the front face of the transmission. The pilot tip of the transmission measures .587" in diameter. The front bearing retainer flange measures 4.686" and the bearing retainer tube is 1-3/8" in diameter. The front bolt pattern is the consistent GM Muncie / Saginaw four-bolt pattern as found on GM bellhousings and transmissions from the 1940's through the 1990's.

So yes, you will have to bore the hole out to fit the SM 465 on there.
