Was there ever such option from the factory or the dealers? Here's a pic of one

There is no listing anywhere in my resto paks, they look like a fab or a JC Whitwhatever item. They don't look like they really fit all that well. Maybe someone had a thing for the old Cameo trucks.

I have seen several of our fleet trucks with these skirts on. I dunno if they were stock or not. I highly doubt it. I tend to agree with slam33 that it is a JC Whitney type item.

I didn't like them on cares, I sure don't like them on the trucks, but I guess someone out there does with as many I have seen using them.

That's the first I've seen those things before. Seen a few 67-72's with the S10 Blazer-style rubber glue-on flares, but nothing like that. Weird!

There used to be 2 trucks in this area with them. I believe 1 is still around. Not sure if they were a dealer item or not, but both of these trucks were cheyennes with the lower woodgrain trim on the skirts. both were made the same and the molding looked factory too. Although I have never seen any literture on them either

Original Fender Skirts

Interesting discussion on fender skirts....The 71 Burb we've been working on for the last year had steel fender skirts installed by the dealer when purchased new in 1971 (There is, however, no option code on the glovebox door for this). The original owner said skirts were ordered from the dealer when new; they have the trim installed / factory clips. A black burb with black skirts??? Sounds like it was a funeral home vehicle!! YUP, IT WAS!! now has a total of 49,950 miles. BTW: the skirts have been removed and reside under the bed....don't think we'll put them back on with the 4" rear drop and Dunlops. This is the only set of steel fender skirts I have ever seen installed on one of our trucks.........BTW: this Burb had a large sheet metal insert covered in black vinyl (with Landau Irons installed) over the large rear side windows on each side (it is very evident that the hearse conversion had been locally fabricated...easy to tell from the installation method)....kinda' different though.

so they were dealer installed, huh? then that's reason they were never listed in the option list in the trucks.
7T1BURB, are you going to sell yours?

Fender skirts used to be found on a lot of vehicles, from the factory, into the 70's, i.e., Cadillac, Oldsmobile and Buick. Ford seemed to get away from them, except for the Lincoln Town Car, in the 60's. There was aftermarket activity, whether JCWhitney, Honest Charlies, or whoever. Some folks liked them. Some folks didn't. The concept of skirts went back to the late 20's/early 30's and were a strong "gotta have" in the late 40's and into the early 60's.

So, whether or not WE like them now is just a matter of preference and opinion. I have seen skirts on funeral coaches made from Suburbans of the 73-89 era, too. Just seems to be a "dying" trend, so to speak.

Chevy_Fatman:
Got to thinking about the picture you submitted with your initial post and pulled the skirts out from under the bed....the ones you pictured are different from the set removed from the Burb prior to work beginning.....ours are "full" skirts (the bottom of our the skirts are in line with the bottom of the body...yours seem to rise to just below the trim piece)...another interesting variation of the thousands of skirts out there!! BTW: don't plan on selling the skirts at this time.....

Oh they're not mine 7T1BURB, I found them on e-bay, the link for the auction was posted earlier by BLAZERMAN, got any pics of yours? if they are the full skirts, they would complement a "lowrider" truck, can you imagine that?
