700r4 Install ????

Can someone give me a quick run down on what needs to be done to install a 700R4 witha 350 into a 70 Stepside running a edelbrock carb. Is there a TV cable? I bought the lokar cable shift linkage for a column shifter so far. Please give me a run down on this install...

Re: 700r4 Install ????

I bought a 86 c-20 van for $500.00 with a good drivetrain.... The 700r4 shifts great... I am in california and the van needed some work to pass smog since it came from another state...

Re: 700r4 Install ????

After the "mechanicals" are all done, pay LOTS of attention to adjusting the TV cable. There's lots of literature on the subject, but it can't be overstated IMO. Impropper TV adjustment can (and most likely will) lead to premature tranny failure.

Also, if you're towing or doing long trips, or if the TCC lockup isn't working or if you're running a higher stall converter, strongly suggest you include an additional tranny fluid cooler. The hotter the fluid gets the shorter the life of the tranny.

Best wishes.

Re: 700r4 Install ????

I will second the trans cooler. If you do it, be sure and invest in a stacked plate designed cooler. They are much more efficient and provide less restriction than the old tube and fin designed coolers. The stacked plate coolers are the same as late model GMs use from the factory.
