Re: whats that noise!?!?
How did you grenade the pinion? What was happening at the time?
Ya might drain your transfer case and check for any issues in the fluid (fragments, etc) but NP205's are quite strong.

Re: whats that noise!?!?
I was just cruisin home, bout 30mph and slowing to make a courner when the first in a series of loud, truck shaking BANGS came from,,,, back there.... made it the last 3 miles home, startling Horses and Cows the whole way,,, not much oil left by the time I got home due to the holes in the dif cover,, but it did look rather dry around the pinion bearing,,,
took the back plate off the transfer,,, looks great in there, no pieces, oil was really clean.... Bear and a happy Veterans day to all my fellow Veteran brothers and sisters..... Semper Fi (USMC 85-91)

Re: whats that noise!?!?
Well, it might be a good time to look at your gear ratio and consider re-gearing if needed. If that's your truck in the avatar, it looks like you're running about 33's. You probably want a 3.73 or so ratio for those tires. Randy's Ring & Pinion in Everett should have what you need and it's not too far away from you.

Re: whats that noise!?!?
As far as gears go, Richmond Gear is very good. Also, a lot of the local 4X4 guys are using Yukon gears and seem very happy with them too. The Yukon's are are a little less money to boot. I hope that help, and sorry to hear about the rear end grenade.

Re: whats that noise!?!?
yeah,, the tires are 35's, and the gears were 3.73's, but were a used set the PO had a buddy put in ,, so who knows if he knew what he was doing,,, when I owned this Blazer previously (early 90's) the carrier broke in the original rearend,,, so I'm thinkin the old Blazer is cursed!!! :O)... I've never beat on this rig, and the only wheelin it sees is on the farm, so I can't really justify a 3/4 ton swap... I don't mind spendin the extra $$$ on a better quality gear set..
thanks for the input!!! :O) Bear

Re: whats that noise!?!?
If you run a different ratio, you'll need to do the front too. My last rig had 35's and 4.10's. It was much better geared than my first one which had 35's and 3.73's. You might find it cheaper to put a used 3/4 ton set under the truck than new gears - but ya might end up in the same situation your in now a few years down the road.
I don't know what is up in your area, but http://www.oly4x4.com/ is in Snohomish and http://www.4wheelparts.com/ is in Lynnwood. I'd guess there was a 4wd shop someplace up around Bellingham or Mt. Vernon.

Re: whats that noise!?!?
yup,, it was called Northwest Offroad,,, John Hendricks ownes it, he closed the retail store and only does online sales now,, (he's a bit of a strange duck... lives just down the road) the sad thing about goin 3/4 ton,,, I just bought those new wheels to better fit my new tires!!
when it rains, it pours!!! oh... and with the 35's and 3.73's.. my speedo is right on... so I don't want to change that and create a new headache.... well I guess its road trip time!! Bear.

My .02c do NOT buy Genuine Gear. I would get Spicer, Youkon or Precision Gear R&P and make sure your master install kit comes with Timkin bearings and Natonal Seals. Oh and I doubt that hurt your 205 in anyway Good Luck
