Old Tooling???
I was wondering the other day, who has all the old tooling for our trucks? Stuff like the press dies for passenger fenders and fiberglass molds for single wall tops, etc? These things had to have gone somewhere. Does one of the aftermarket groups already have this stuff or is it hidden away in a GM warehouse in Michigan or something? Anyway, I figured someone on this board would have some info.

Re: Old Tooling???
A friend of mine works for a company that finds this stuff. He said that must of the tooling was pretty worn out at the end of production so it got scrapped. The rest of the tooling sat outside and rusted beyond repair. He said it was more cost effective to make new tools.

Jim Carter Classic Truck Parts sells inner fenders that are supposedly from GM tooling.

At one point in time Golden State Pickup parts was supposed to have some of the old tooling when Daulton owned it but who knows now.

Re: Old Tooling???
it's in taiwan. the new pieces are made from metal out of old model t's. they dont have quality assurance personnel in those factories that's why we get the $hitty fitting parts.

Re: Old Tooling???
those dies have to wear out after time and I dont think GM or any company that size would give or sell the dies or even the blueprint to make the dies. Thats kinda like coke telling us how they made it 30 years ago..
or it is probably in Taiwan and it really is a 30-40 year old die and thats why nothing will ever fit tight sounds good to me
