BBC owners question
Can you fellow BBC owners check something out for me? Does everyone's factory PS pump belt look slightly misaligned like this one? Like the crank pulley is spaced about 1/8 inch too far forward? Mine is the same way and as far as I know, I have the right pulleys and pump. It seems like this would wear out the thrust surfaces of the pump, but if GM did them all this way it must be ok....

Re: BBC owners question
yes the power steering pump pulley's do tend to stick forward a bit further than I think they should. What would concern me about that picture is it looks like the pump is twisted on the mounts. I would be checking to make sure all the mounts are right and tight.

Re: BBC owners question
Mine looked just like yours, the upper mount on mine had a broken stud (in the head), causing the concern. Believe it or not I have been driving it without a upper support, and the bottom bolt cranked down, the belt still looks like your's but has not come off yet, even at high RPM's.

Re: BBC owners question
I have played around with the mounts and adjustments. The best I could get was about as straight as that pic I borrowed shows. I even spaced the pump main bracket away from the block with some washers. I have thought about making a more stable (thicker) spacer plate if I ever had a problem with the belt throwing off.

Re: BBC owners question
I had pulley problems for a long time and this is as close as i got it. My Alt was out also but a simple bolt with a stud on it was the fix. I found a old BB Burban and it was all stock. Took a few pics with my digital and used them for reference. I did have a stock waterpump with the shaft sticking out too far and that caused problems as well, always thought it was pulleys or brackets so it can happen.
