I fit the 73-87 style engine mounts to the 64 frame and got the big block and 3 speed trans bolted in place yesterday. Here are a few pics.

YOu should put the valve covers on that engine also..

I did fit the valve covers, but i took the pictures before i put them on. There is plenty of room for them.

Did you have to cut the frame or was it already cut. I had to cut the frame on mine where the mounts bolted to the frame. I used the back holes.

There is plenty of room for the distributor. I will lay the intake on the engine and take a few pictures. I think the angle of the pictures i posted make the engine look closer to the fire wall than it really is.

David, I had to cut the frame so the holes in the towers would align with the forward and rear holes already drilled on the top frame rail. If you have any pictures of your big block install, i would like to take a look at them. Thanks.

I have a question for you guys doing Big Blocks in 60-66 trucks. Have any of you used the '72 only Big Block mounts, and if so, what trans. crossmember for installing a T400 with it? Thanks, Tim

cool, my 454 fits on original mounts without hitting or cutting anything,limited to low rocker covers only

I have noticed that on some of the trucks the engine will bolt right up in the original holes and some have to move the mounts up because the heads won't clear the firewall. Mine would not clear the firewall so I did a little cutting and welding.

Would your truck be a 63 Harry?

I find this an interesting thread for identifying clearance problems. I have a 58 apache mounted on a 64 chassis, which is the same as a 63. The 283 is getting a little tired and I am thinkin big block. With how the body is mounted to keep the front wheels centered in the wheelwells, I have lots of room between the SBC valve covers and firewall. So I should be able to get away without and firewall mods. So what I need to find out from any of you guys is can you give me the dimension from the center of the engine mounts to the back of the head and also for the mounts to the fan blades. I might be crowding into the radiator. David and Paul - you both wrote about having to cut the frame for mounts. Can you be more specific on what and how much cutting is involved? Thanks, Rick.

I have been looking at the newer mounts but just don't think they are going to work for me now. I just ordered a set of BB mounts for a 67-71 chevy truck. They are alot smaller then the newer ones. I really don't like the look of the later mounts and yes mine is not going to be a daily driver. I will show it for fun also..
