SBC to BBC. Who's done it, Whats needed

My truck currently has a 350 in it and a th400 tranny. A guy i know that parts vehicles out just tore down a 76 chevy pickup with a 454 and he said he's pricing everything to sell so i wanna buy the 454 to put in my 68. What all is needed to do this swap. I know as far as the tranny it will bolt right up but what do i need for motor mounts or will the stock small block mounts work. I've delt with alot of small blocks but i've never dropped a big block in any thing so this is new to me as far as what will bolt up and what won't. Thanks

You need the big block towers that bolt to the frame, bigblock radiator, bigblock fan shroud, You might need to upgrade your fuel line to 3/8. Is the motor stock? You might need to install heavier springs in the front. Make sure you get all the brackets and pulleys. I'm sure I left some things out but someone else will jump in and help you.

Re: SBC to BBC. Who's done it, Whats needed

I am in the "collecting parts" stage for this swap. My truck came with a 307 and 4 speed. 454 block was purchased, BBC towers, BBC Power Steering remote unit and brackets are needed, BBC Alternator Brackets brackets, and all the correct pulleys. I decided to get all the original stuff that allows for a Short water pump. I went with billet polished 3 groove crank pulley for AC and also a 2 groove pulley for the short water pump, and the 1 groove Power Steering pulley.

If you are running a stock fuel pump you need to put a return line on your fuel system back to tank. Also, as far as cooling goes...a fan clutch for a 454 like say 77 and up from a 1 Ton will be the thicker heavier duty one that will really make a difference if you have Air Conditioning. NAPA or the dealer are the places I have had luck getting that style...Autozone and Orielly, etc do say theres are heavy duty but are the thin style and not worth a crap.

You also might want to look at your front springs...The Big Block is just a "scosh" heavier than the 307.
