I've seen some truck where they have removed the rear cross member between the spring perches. I don't want to do that, I'm concerned about the frame speading, compressing or getting out of square in that area under off-road torque loads (my truck is a 4wd). I'd still like to see how the tank fits.

You may want to measure up some of the following tanks. You may have to trim the lips on the frame to get these in and custom build mounts for the straps.

77-82 GM van tank (Hollander #1052). 31" (not including the flange lips) x 22" x 12.375" . 1.25" filler on the driver's side rear.

1983-95 Van tanks (Hollander#1295 & 1585) are the same except for 1.625" filler.

1987-95 van (Hollander # 1418 & 1583) shows the same except for no filler specs.

If your using a fuel injection system, these have you typical GM big "twist lock" senders.

While we are on this subject, is there a rear fill (center fill) that I can access under the license plate in the roll pan, Muatang, Monte Carlo ,Buick Regal 70's, vintage.
Does anybody have a pic of this operation?
