Speakers in door?
I hacked my dash, got me a fancy radio, now i need me some fancy speakers, but i would like to go bigger than the ones in the dash, so they can handle a lil bass...
the kick panels are to expensive, so i'm thinking putting em in the door. where have you all put them, and what size? Last edited by AlienYouth; 10-05-2007 at 06:06 PM. |

Re: Speakers in door?
You can fit any size speaker you want into the door.
I have 6.5" MB Quart components in my doors.

Re: Speakers in door?
If you arent planning on subs, I would go with a 6x9 or a 6.5

Re: Speakers in door?
Put some 2 or 3-way 6 X 9" speakers in the doors, they'll fit nicely. You'll have your highs, mids, and lows. Then you gotta add a subwoofer!!! LOL

Re: Speakers in door?
I was thinking about cutting my doors as well but I just can't make myself do it. Have you all had any problem with putting the speakers in the doors?

Re: Speakers in door?
Its what Im going to do is install speakers in my doors. On my 79, to do kick panels would be hard due to the vents. So Ive made up my mind and my truck is not going t be a "SHOW" truck. So Im gonna open up the doors for speakers. But will fab up some sorta "shield" just in case any H2O would happen to get in.

Re: Speakers in door?
My advice:
Put in 6x9's and get a set of these. They are priced per pair. If you wait about a week or so I can tell you what they sound like, Mine are scheduled to be here tuesday. Im putting 2 6x9's in each door and will have dual 12" subs under the bench. I got the Pioneer Shallow Mounts. It's gonna be SWEET action. http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...SPP-69CLF.html |

Re: Speakers in door?
Just so you know, a 6x9 speaker produces as much bass as a 8" sub will. I think there is actually a tad bit more surface area on a 6x9.
Get some 2 or 3 way speakers and they'll sound great. When I got my truck it had holes in the doors for 6" rounds, and the dash was hacked up with cheapo head unit in it.( for some reason the headunit was a '2 knob' type, but I guess the P.O didn't realize that they go in FROM THE BACK! arrugh) The best part-? The 6" speakers in the door weren't even hooked up, the P.O. had put some home bookshelf speakers under the seat and they were hooked up to the head unit.( Now they are in my garage- where they belong) I decided since there is already rust in my doors and big holes, I cut the holes to fit 6x9's in there. They fit just right, there's just enough space from the bottom of the door panel to the top of the ridge on the bottom of the door to put a 6x9 there. There or the kick panels will give you the best representation of true stereo- about the same distance from left to right for both passengers. Some people balk at cut doors, I say go for whatever makes YOU happy! |M|
