$1500 LWB Take Off...

Well I finally got over to look at the LWB bed my body shop (Curt) said he had for sell and yes...in my opinion it is worth $1500. This is a 1971 GMC bed that was taken off the original truck back in 1972 and has been in dry storage since then. It has all the lower moldings which are in very nice condition and the bed looks like it just came from the factory. I can't use the GMC tailgate thats on it (shucks) since my truck is a Chevy but I bought a very nice 70 CST tailgate about ten years ago for about $75 that I will use. I looked underneath the bed and zero rust! I got pics but I won't be able to show the pics for a couple of days until I get back home. So down the road I will have a nice/decent fairly rust free LWB bed for sale. Good floor but the sides are not.I know some will say that is way to much $$$...but to make one good lwb bed out of two will be costly labor wise and it still won't be as nice as this bed. Yes...down the road I will sell the GMC tailgate but I need to do some research to see what I want to price it at. My truck will go into the body shop in about 2-3 weeks for its transformation.

Re: $1500 LWB Take Off...

I might be interested in the gate if it is like a new take off. What color is it?

Re: $1500 LWB Take Off...

Let me know what you would want for it. If its a 71 bed it should have a disc brake sticker still on it.

Re: $1500 LWB Take Off...

I had found a brand new take off lwb fleetside with tailgate from a Cheyenne probably been 10 years ago now. It was over in western Iowa and the guy sold it for $2500 back then. I hadn't seen it but when I called he had told me he had it removed off his brand new ordered in '72 at the dealer and installed a special work body on it for his Veterinary supplies. He told me it never was even rained on and there was not even a scratch or ding in it as they delivered it out to his barn before he even picked up his new truck and it was stored on some barrels complete with tailgate and all the trim and lights. I thought that was about right back then. But that is the last new take off 67-72 I had ever heard about. You got a steal at $1500.

Re: $1500 LWB Take Off...

I totally agree. Many may say it`s high, but need to think it over. It`s n.o.s.,not excellant used,as far as I`m concerned.True n.o.s. replacement parts usually have some suface rust after laying around over 1/3 of a century in primer. The paint is a plus in this case.Give ya $1,800.
