What needs to be done to convert a blazer frame into a truck
Can anyone tell me what changes on a blazer frame would need to be done to use it as a shortbed truck frame? I know the blazer frame is shorter, but were would it need to be lengthened (mid, rear, etc.)? Also I believe cab mounts need to be changed but could use some info on this as well.
Any info is appreciated. Thanks. Scott

Re: What needs to be done to convert a blazer frame into a truck
Thanks but I just bought one on ebay that was listed as a truck and I found out it was a blazer frame. So now I need to know what would be needed to convert it to a truck frame so I can build what I want.

Do a lot of measuring and get somone that is really good metal fabricator. You will have to lengthen it.

Re: What needs to be done to convert a blazer frame into a truck
You will need to find another truck to measure off of if someone here doesnt answer. You will have to add some in the middle of the frame before the swoop up and maybe even some on the rear. That's why I say measure from another truck frame of the same years.

Re: What needs to be done to convert a blazer frame into a truck
Mudder, thanks again for the info. Maybe someone here can answer this one. I'm kinda upset having bought the rolling chassis (see other post) based on it listed as a truck chassis. Guess I should have done more investigating. Live and learn.

Re: What needs to be done to convert a blazer frame into a truck
What year frame? 67-72
The only mount on the frame that is the same is the mount under the cowl (very front of the cab) all the other mounts are different, also the rear of the frame where the bumper bolts up is different. You might be better off to resell the blazer frame and buy a truck frame. I have two bare frames one of each.I"ll post some pics tomorrow for you so you can see the difference. James

Mudder, yupper that's the one. It's not just a frame, it includes everything shown, both axles rebuilt, new springs, four wheel disc setup, Dana 20 rebuilt, new drive shafts, etc.

not all blazer frames are that way my 72 looked like your bottom bumper pic and my 71 had the top bumper pic.

Re: What needs to be done to convert a blazer frame into a truck
The '72 Blazers/Jimmys were the only year to have the rear frame horns with the back capped off and angled down.

The factory assembly manual shows some frame dimensions.

Re: What needs to be done to convert a blazer frame into a truck
i saw a cool picture someone posted of a "ultra" short bed chevy where they shortened the bed of a pickup and tossed it on the blazer frame, so the bed was about 5 feet and didnt have to lengthen the frame. also would probably be a beast off road with the short wheelbase. just a thought...
