Bent Frame - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey

When I pulled my engine and took off my front clip on my truck, 72 burb, I was … how do I say this, beat like a bad dog….. Anyway, a friend of mine was over giving me grief about not working on my truck and we went out to look at it.

He noticed that on the passenger side of the frame there is a part that curves up. It is almost right above the cross member. He asked if I bent the frame when I was pulling my engine. He said cause I was doing it myself I mostly likely didn’t notice.

Here are some pictures if you could let me know if I completely goofed up or did the frame come from the factory like this, it would be most helpful.

I think I could beat it back down with some heat or I could just leave it cause I don’t think it is going to interfere with anything.

That's factory. I think the notch is there for the fuel pumps?

There is NO WAY you could have bent the frame like that pulling the motor without lifting the truck off the ground too

That is normal. I think it's been mentioned that it is for fuel pump clearance on a BB.

I know the frame on my '72 had a couple of those on it.

yeah, as soon as he asked if you bent the frame pulling the motor, I would have revoked his "thinking out loud" priviliges.

Normal.BBC fuel pump clearance.All frames i've seen.

Both my frames have those 2 and 4 wheel drive..

Mine is bent too, but at least now I know why as I often wonder what the purpose of that was.

I thought it was for A/C compressor clearance (at least it works well for that on a genIII engine

)

Thanks for the input. I was worried cause I hadn't realy paid attention. That's what I get for listening my friend who drives a unibody.

I am sure you could not bend a frame like that by lifting a motor. Way too thick of steel.

Sure you can! Just as you get the engine out the rest of the truck rolls out of the shop.
