installing gas filler grommet
What's the best way to do this? Im thinking installing the tank and then pressing in the new grommet using liquid dish detergent for lube.
Is that the best way? Thanks in advance. ------------------ 63 Impala*66 Chevelle SS*69 Chevelle*69 C10 Stepside*71 Cheyenne 20*72 Chevelle Parts for sale: http://www.angelfire.com/trek/mr409/items4sale.html

Yup, thats how I did it, lubed it up. The only problem I had was that my gas tank filler tube wasnt centered in the hole and I had to shim the tank around, now that was a pain. There are 2 different sizes of these grommets by the way.

I installed the grommet, Lubed the inside of the grommet and filler neck an installed the tank.
It went pretty smooth. It was a 71 with the 2 1/4" neck. ------------------ Toms River NJ (Transplanted Hoosier) 56 working Street Rod(under construction 71-2 coil chassis) Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will sit in a boat & drink beer all day. |

I did what DennyB did and it went fine, installed it dry into the cab then lubed the neck of tank and inside the grommet with dish soap (Palmalive, softens yours hands while your installing the tank)and it slipped in like a new bride!

When I did mine I was replacing my tank also.
If you dont plan on removing the tank, Gee_Emm's way may be quicker???? The seat and tank comes out quick with an air ratchet though. Quote:
