gotta trim my fender lips!
well, i guess i am gonna have problems with my 275/60's up front the drivers side tire is getting ate up, so i'm about to go out there and fix it with my dremel!
i plan on just cutting 2 cuts in the lip, about the lengh of the tire so i can bend it up into the wheel well, then the silver trim piece will be cut too |

make sure to treat the cut edges with paint. Rust is evil

use a baseball bat! did that on my 70 chevelle, worked great! shove it between the tire and the fender then roll the truck, its that east and no sharp edges to cut your tires or hands on. it rolls the fender lip up in the wheel well.

I use 255/60R15 on the front with 2" of clearance and mine still rub. I plan on keeping the 255s when the drop springs are installed too. Small price to pay for a lowered truck.

i told you they'd rub man. just put the 255/60 on the front. you are now running a 28 inch tall tire. the 255/60 is 27 inches tall. that means you are only gonna lose .5 inch of clearence. and as for the header thing. if they are scraping 4 times a day then even with the tires just like they are you eventualy goning to hit an unexpected big bump and really mess things up. if i were you i would get some shorty headers (i know you don't have the money for them now, but start saving) and some 255/60/15 tires. i know its your truck and your gonna do what you want with it but thats just a friends honest opinion
gchem - do you really rub that bad with the 255/60's and 2.5 inch front drop? i've had mine on for close to six months and have rubbed the inner fender lightly mabey 3 times and thats with a 5 inch front drop. i guess it might be that your still running stock springs and they are not as stiff as drop springs?

i'm gonna end up getting new tires if they continue to rub even after i rolled my fender lips today. and shortie headers are on my list of things to get, right after shocks and a c notch kit, until then, i can take it easy on bump and be xtra careful.
oh, and i'm not sure its even the headers i'm scraping on, it could be my lower control arms, or my ubolts in the back, they all hang pretty low |

i'm betting its you headers scraping, they are prone to scraping b/c of there location. 4.5" is actualy a good amount of control arm clearence. i drive carefully and don't srape to often with 3" inch of ca clearence. i would say if you got the different tires and headers you'd be set and won't have to worry about scraping to much.

Ryan,
It's my driving. Yes the stock springs are really week. I'm going to have to replace the front air dam once the front suspension is rebuilt. It has plenty of scars along with the A-arms. |

I told ya they'd rub
I wouldnt dremel the fendrs though. Rust is bad, mmmm k? I used a good o'l hammer on my lips to "roll" them back and outa the way. Since the 275/60's only rubbed when th lip was normal, I think the 255/60's will be perfect for my 5" front drop next week.

275's are way tooo big for the fronts on a lowered truck, i'm running 245's on mine with 15x9 rims and i've had no problems with tire rub, don't butcher the truck, instead go with a smaller tire, and you'll need to change the way you drive now that it's lowered.

My 275s rubbed when I had a 3/5 drop. Now I've got 215s in front with the 6/8.

wish I had found this thread before I asked all those questions. Pretty much answers everything though. I think with some hammer blows and a 2x4 I can 'modify' the fenders enough for the 275s in the rear, and move the 255s up front. Just in case ya'll are wondering, I need the size difference to even out the truck.
How can I find out how much drop my truck was given? |
