Ok this is my first winter with my 72 k5, It has a single wall top and is bedlined throughout the interior. My question is do your heaters work well? It was 15degrees this morning and I went out and fired it up 20mins before I left for work. all the windows were still frosted over including the front with 2 dinner plate sized spots that were defrosted. I mean the heater blows out fairly warm air, But maybe i need a new heater core? Supplemental heater? Do you guys have problems with yours?

I put a newer model a/c fan in place of the original. It blows three time the air the old one did.

Seat Heaters, kits available online or ebay, work very well

I would be very interested in this, what year/model truck did you use?

Seat heaters arent gonna work with my aftermarket 4point seats

Try a hotter thermostat temp for winter driving. This will allow the water temp to go a bit higher, and generated more heat for your heater.

My son told me you can put a bigger motor in the fan unit, supposed to be a direct bolt in. '80 to '90 maybe. If I get more info I'll pass it along, I haven't looked into it yet

The ones I saw will work on any covered seats, now if they are resin then no.

I wonder if the thermostat is working at all. If it is stuck open (or totally removed) it wouldn't really warm up at all, especially in that weather. After 20 minutes, that thing should be pretty warm!

The heater in my '70 worked well when I was driving daily in the winter.

i will replace the t-stat this weekend, It has a 180degree in it now, it works great my temp gauge warms up to 190 then drops to 180 and stays there. i get decent air flow, and I realize its alot of space to heat also, just dosent seem like its working as well as it should be

I totally rebuilt my whole heat system last year and it still sucks.... I have not however upgraded my motor...

I could be wrong,but it is not supposed to suck, it supposed to blow

The part# for the upgraded fan is pm102. and there may be one with even more cfm's

Both my blazers will run you out in the winter heat wise. New heater core does make a huge difference. My 71 was doing that but it was the duct hoses were coming apart. Got new hoses and that was it

I have also replaced the heater ducts during the rebuild, the old ones were duct tape!

You need the engine to make heat, first.
Next make sure your heater core is flowing coolant.
Then and only then will you get heat into your interior.

This is probably a long shot.

Last year mine was doing the same thing, the PO had put a T-valve inline on the heater hose just before the heater core. That valve had rattled itself 90% closed so I was not getting enough coolant to make any heat.

Went and picked up a new heater core and 195 t-stat, After getting the heater core assembly out It had a bunch of leaves and crap stuck in there. Got it all put back together and all I can say now is WOW!!! This thing puts out some serious heat! Very happy with the Results, Thanks for all the input guys!
