casting numbers

where can i run the casting numbers off the back of the block?

some times it is hard to read those casting numbers. A 3 can look like an 8 as
can a 6. there is also a good one that the camaro guys use called Nastyz28.com

thank you. i found it at nastyz28. i did 1 number wrong there are other numbers on the head. do the mean anything? F309 cfd gm-1 pass thanks again.

The f309 would be june 30th of that year. (69, or 79 probably)
