5.3L Chevy WIW? I think I found a deal!

Well, me, Jtrux and Blue Thunder might have found a deal. My question is what would someone expect to pay for a 1999-200? 5.3L Chevy engine? The package would include the full computer system, wiring harness, brackets, A/C compressor, Alternator, basically everything that is bolted to the motor. Radiator, A/C condenser, fan shroud etc, WOULDN'T be included. I don't even want to say what we were quoted at this point, I want to see what people have to say. Maybe we will let the cat out of the bag later Anyway, this isn't some guy down the street, it is a reputable salvage yard that is OVERRUN with wrecked trucks. Also, we would be able to see the engine run before it was removed, I guess the mileage on the engine might be a gamble, but still. Jtrux, BlueThunder, don't spoil the fun yet! Let's see what people have to say first.

Re: 5.3L Chevy WIW? I think I found a deal!

i work for a salvage yard in the midwest. a motor like that with out all ur bolt on stuff (alternator. starter. compressor, computer) we would prly get in the area of 800 and up for. depending on mileage and etc. and they sell pretty good at that price but i know if you do your shopping around it can be bought for much cheaper

800 is not bad but our price is well...I won't say anything yet. Anyone else?

I'd guess $2k if it's ready to run and a Vortec. But it would have to be perfect.

I'm really entertaining the idea of a fuel injected vortec in the blazer, especially for the price that we were quoted. I won't be the one to spill the beans on the price though. I kinda like leaving folks in suspense. Had a blast guys. Later, Mario.

I paid $400 for my 6.0 complete w/ all accessories, harness and whatever else I wanted from a reputable yard. I ened up rebuilding it for my peace of mind, but these newer motors last surprisingly well...

One word of caution guys. In Texas, your emissions are governed by the year of your block. If you put in a modern block, you'll have to put in catalytic converters and such. Unless you can find an inspection station to overlook it.

Re: 5.3L Chevy WIW? I think I found a deal!

When I was getting my truck inspected for the 1st time after bringing it in from California, I had to convince the guy that it's a 35 year old truck and block and therefore smog exempt. Funny thing is, he kept calling them cadillac converters.

Sounds like he wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer!

Do what I do. I find a muffler shop that also does inspections. If they will change out your exhaust system to a "not-so-legal" setup, they will certainly inspect the vehicle.

You'd be suprised how far a 12 pack will get you 'round these parts. You can also get an inspection sticker if it is a Friday or Saturday and you show up with a little extra spending cash for the tech doing the inspection. They never turn down extra green before the weekend.

Re: 5.3L Chevy WIW? I think I found a deal!

lol well in kansas we dont have to worry about emissions but i suppose if we did id just get a set of cats and hollow them out then get the o2 sensor deletes from summit to trick the computer and of course the pesky inspectors
