Front Suspension lift on 67 C-30 2WD

Target: 1967 C-30 1 Ton 2WD currently with a stock front end (8 lug, 30" dia tires on 16" rims). I am planning the mid-80's front end swap (discs, linkages, cross member components, etc) and maintaining the 8-lug 16"rim configuration. Has anyone successfully installed a lift kit to raise the front end?

Re: Front Suspension lift on 67 C-30 2WD

Welcome to the board. Never heard of anyone making a pre-runner out of a C30 but it is possible. I don't like the look of my C20 front rake and was looking for a lift as well so I am also curious. I don't want to use spacers...between the springs like we used to do because it will affect the ride quality. I was thinking about air shocks but that would also stiffen it up a bit too.

A spacer in the upper spring pocket that would drop the top of the spring would be the best. The pocket is deep enough so the spring would never be at risk of jumping out and this would maintain the original ride quality. I guess you could easily fab these...see...I just talked myself into this mod...LOL!

Re: Front Suspension lift on 67 C-30 2WD

Spoke with FabTech the other day. Spacing the spring spring will not add adequate lift beyond 3/4"-1". Fabtech used to have a kit for mid80's 2WD (based on ball joint spacers, spindle, bigger spring, & shocks). This kit is no longer offered and the parts inventory was destroyed.

MOOG does make larger springs and everyone can sell me bigger travel shocks. I am concerned that the only way to get the front end up is with a different spindle (much like the lowering kits, but going the opposite way. The spindle would move the wheel hub down (relative to the upper A-arm ball joint) while keeping the caster/camber close to original geometry.

Goal is to get some ground clearance for the forest service roads in Arizona. No Baja pre-runner racing at this time

Re: Front Suspension lift on 67 C-30 2WD

to my knowlegde, fabtech never had a lifted spindle for the 73-87 chevy trucks. They only had long travel "A" arms for the 1/2 ton trucks. I have seen these lifts mated to the 3/4 or 1 ton spindle.

My 3/4 ton truck is lifted w/ Rancho springs, upper ball joint spacer and a 3 inch body lift on 33 inch bfg mud terrains.

I am also interested in getting some more lifts out of our body style trucks. If you have any information on how to do so. Please let me know.

Thanks

Jim

Re: Front Suspension lift on 67 C-30 2WD

Jim,

How is the ball joint spacer implemented? I have only heard about this option, but never seen it. Can you describe (or send a pic if easy)?

Machining new spindles is not practical (no one bought me the 5-Axis CNC machine that is on my birthday/Christmas list).

Fabtech used to sell the ball joint spacer (part # FTS-513) with a spring (FTSC10-4). You are correct, they did not make the lifted spindle until the 1988 model 1/2 ton. Unfortunately, the FabTech tech I spoke with said they quit making the spacer and scrapped thier inventory.

If you can describe the spacer, maybe I can machine my own and combine that with a larger spring or lift suggested by "stlookn".

See if the suspension picture helps you out. If not, let me know and I'll take a better picture.

subscribed...I just put stock BB springs on the front of my SB and gained about an inch...and one heck of a stiff ride.

Re: Front Suspension lift on 67 C-30 2WD

My local spring shop made me a set of front custom springs. Cost was 150 per pair. No problem aligning it.

A buddy of mine put a '86 model C-30 Diesel springs on his 3/4 tons, and came up about 3 inches. His truck looks like a 4X4 from the side.
