Cold Weather and Old Upholstery

I went out to my truck to get something from the passenger side the other night…opened the door and, as is the norm, hopped in by placing my knee on the seat to reach what I was going after…CRUNCH! The upholstery was frozen, or at least very cold, and fractured.
I’ve been babying these buddy buckets, waiting for the time when they will be recovered but I figured, what the heck, may as well sit on them in the meanwhile…guess they’re going in the garage now… …beware and take care…this old stuff is fragile.

I got an elbow mark similar to you knee mark in the front passenger seat of my 71 Convertible. Back in the MN requires insurance to get license plate tabs days, I crawled in there one winter to get my policy number out of the glove box. I put my elbow down and right through the seat cover. Bummer.

Re: Cold Weather and Old Upholstery

I did the same thing on a little 78 SWB BB truck that had a perfect original seat in it. Most of the seat was cloth but the center was vinyl and I leaned over to grab something on the other side one very cold day and CRUNCH...

Re: Cold Weather and Old Upholstery

Two seats on my boat suffered the same fate two winters ago.
