Question Jim Meyer Racing

Has anybody ever used a Jim Meyer chassis?

I have a 62 shorty. In planning my (1st) project, i see nothing but headaches with the 62 frame. I see 3 options. Deal with the headaches, stuff a 63+ frame under my truck, or go with a nice, new shiny custsom frame. Anyone had any experience with their work, was it worth it, etc. etc.

First check with Nate @ "PorterBuilt" street rods here in the board. The problem with your frame is the front suspention right? If that is it then Nate may be able to help for less then a new frame with way more advantages.

I've looked into Porterbuilt stuff, and it looks great. The front X-member is part of the problem, but like you said there are fixes for that. Another part of the problem is that there is a big X that goes through the rear part of the frame (or so i've been told. I haven't been under my truck in a while). The later year frames don't have this. Most rear suspension parts, trailing arm xmembers, etc are marketed for 63+. I'm trying to plan ahead so i don't do alot of work and then have to back track or have to do alot of fabrication.

On a side note, i saw a posting under chassis pics that showed what looked to be a porterbuilt frame, not just dropmember. Any info on this??

here is my porter built frame and one other thats complete, you don't have to run c4 suspension ,Nate could built it straight axle to,jim meyer builds also build a very bad a-- frame, are you looking to do air ride and big wheels?

no problem dino, I don't mind talking about the frame again. I especially don't mind looking at those great pics! I think the way the bags are connected to the suspension with the rocker arm is killer. Also, the treatment around the 4 link mount is a nice touch.

Question... what is the linkage-looking stuff at the back of the diff. It almost looks like steering linkage... what gives? It doesn't look like a watts...

Also, if you have any pics of a stock '62 style frame or rolling chassis, i would love for you to post them. Like i said, my truck is still complete, and i haven't been under it for some time, and don't think i'll be able to crawl under for some time to come.

Those are tie rods. They hold the rear wheels straight. Otherwise you would the rear wheels turning different directions instead of parralle with each other

I plan on buying a Jim Meyers IFS front kit and a rear kit from them for my 77 GMC.

I just have to acquire a little more money before I can buy it. The chassis was just too much for me to do. Besides the 77 doesn't have the problem you're facing.

Dino and SVT, are you guys saying that chassis has rear steering? Or is that just for adjustment... totally lost on this one.

Oh, and Dino

I am planning on doing air bags. Maybe not to lay frame.... not too sure yet. I definately want a low stance, but also retain good driveability. I'm thinking about a 383 with an automatic. Something that'll jump when i say jump, but also something that i can still take for a long ride down to the shore.

Not to be pushy, but you'll make my day if you can show me a bare frame from the 60-62 years. If not, no biggy. But every time I log on it's like Christmas. Waiting to see what I got!!

Okay. Those bars are call tie rods. There purpose is to keep the wheel parralle to each other. In this case they are using a c4 rear end setup. It is an independent rear suspesnion. Since it is an IRS the it needs something to keep the wheels straight as they go up and down. This does that. Otherwise one wheel will turn left while the other wheel turns right. Hope that helped.

I follow on the tie rods for IRS. I guess what's throwing me off is that in the pic it looks like a solid axle with 4 link. I know your post said it was c4 IRS. I am not familiar with that setup, and i am certainly not going to dispute you guys. (You are the ones putting these together, after all!!) It's just hard to see it from the pic.
