Smile Play Inside Steering Column

I have a non-tilt steering column that has play inside. The outside does not move at all. I have a 1967 C10 and have some manuals but none of them show a complete break down. I would like to rebuild my column and install as many new parts inside as possible. Does anyone have a good diagram of this column? Thanks.

Re: Play Inside Steering Column

That's a solid shaft all the way down to the flex joints. Either the flex joint or the rag joint must have play or your steering wheel is loose. Those aren't hard to rebuild especially if it,s a floor shift.

Re: Play Inside Steering Column

at the bottom of the column there should be a small spring and washers right at where the column connects if it is missing it wont keep the proper tension on the column shaft and lower bearing causing slop in the column

Re: Play Inside Steering Column

There are bearings at both the top and bottom of the column(IIRC).There should be a write up in the FAQ section but I haven't searched it.Check your local library for other manuals that may have a breakdown on this.
