SWB Metal Floor Bed

Well, I know where there is a REAL nice short bed sitting on a frame. It has no rust and only 1 small ding behind the left tire, and like I said, a NICE metal floor. I'm not positive, but I think it is even wearing the original paint. I know these are rare, but how rare? I am considering buying it as an investment or to use on a future project that I have been thinking about. What do y'all think?

Get it for sure. If you dont need it im sure some one on here would buy it from you. I know im looking for a bed but all tthe ones I find are more than I want to pay ore to beat up.Ones with original paint are hard to come buy.

Do a search over in the for sale area. I think really nice short boxes are going up to 800 bucks and more.

The factory metal floor instead of the usual wood. It's in great shape and I think this is the first one I have ever seen in person, but I don't get out much.

, IF it is a fleet bed, the metal floor is by far more common. If it is a step bed then they were all wood from the factory. Sometimes you will see a step bed where someone has welded a steel floor over the wood.

Re: SWB Metal Floor Bed

If it's under $600.00 and nice... BUY IT!!!
Repop - Steel Bed floor... $600
Repop - Bedsides $400-$500 per side
Repop - front panel $150-$200
Repop - inner whhel tubs $75-$125 per side
All PLUS Shipping usually...
So thats about $1500.00 to $1800.00 to build from scratch, plus all the little pieces... anything NICE has got to be worth getting if you can afford it, and can buy it for the right price...

Really? Shows what I know. All of the 67-72 trucks I have seen around here were wood bed, and all of the trucks in my family over the years have been stepsides. I have always known they made metal ones, just haven't run across any.

Using your assumptions it is definitely worth it for me to buy this bed. If nothing else I could use it down the road. I plan for my next project to be a 2wd SWB fleet. Finding a nice metal bed for it never really crossed my mind until now.

Re: SWB Metal Floor Bed

Buy it! Clean SWB fleet beds are harder to come by than you might think. Even though rust is usually not a problem in Texas, rust free, dent free beds are no longer abundant. Buy it, or pass it on and I will send a trailer.

Re: SWB Metal Floor Bed

The funny thing about this post is I've owned over 40 of these trucks (including junkers and parts trucks) and I've never owned a wood floor fleetside that wasn't a Longhorn!
