Starter Question
I am switching from the cast iron bell housing to the aluminum type bell housing. What is the part number for the starter that goes with aluminum bell housings?
Thanks Ben |

Should be the same starter. It bolts to the engine not the bell.

The trucks ran a 168 tooth flywheel/flex plate(14" dia). The starter that fits the auto trans apps, or alum bell stick , will have a staggered boltpattern. If you by chance you have the smaller flywheel(153 t, 12 3/4"dia) the starter has a straight across pattern,& both starters bolt to the block as posted. If the truck starter that you have is good, you can change the end housing & bolt it to your block......arent Chevs great! i cant help on part #, but good luck......crazyL

Thanks for the info. I am going with a T56 6 speed once I get all the detailed problems worked out. I just wonder what else I am going to have to change to make this work.
