Tailshaft length on a 67'
Hi every one, i have a 67 chevy longbed. Im planning on putting a turbo 350 in it instead of the 3speed manual. The question i have is im wondering what size tailshaft came stock on a 67 auto trans? Also if i put this tranny in will i need to do any lengthning or shortning of my driveshaft?

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
Use a turbo 350 with the "short" tailshaft and it will be a bolt in. Driveshaft won't have to be cut and the 3-speed yoke will work in the turbo 350. Of course you'll have to remove the bellhousing crossmember, and install all the auto trans. related stuff. What are you using for a shifter? Steering column swap?

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
what length is the short tailshaft? My grandpa is a mechanic and he said the turbo 350 tailshaft came in 3 different lengths (he thought it was 4,7, and 9?). I think im going to put a floor shifter since it would be easier to hookup. Unless i can find a auto steering column with all the linkage for cheap. Do you know anyone selling a floor shifter?

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
Use the shortest one. I'm not sure of the length,... but it's what I always called a "shortshaft 350". OK,... I just Googled it. Heres the quote: (Three tail shaft housing lengths were available, 6 1/4", 9 1/4", and 12 1/4"). So it's the 6 1/4 " one. Here's the link: http://www.teufert.net/t350/t350.htm

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
I did this exact swap years agos to my old '69 LWB. I swapped in the auto steering column and trans. crossmember also. Don't go by my word. Get out the tape measure and measure from your "bellhousing-to-engine flange", back to the tip of the tailshaft. Then measure a shortshaft turbo 350. You need all the associated stuff like a trans cooler, dipstick, etc. It would be easier if you could find a donor truck and get everything. Hope I helped you.

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
i dont think turbo 350 was available in 67 so the only surefire way to check for fit would be to measure

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
Thanks for the help. I think the short shaft will work. I found a site earlier today that said the 67 came equipped with a powerglie, TH350, or 3 speed manual. I hope it works if not im gonna loose some moeny and time. Also where do i get a transmission cooler at? my raidator is from a 78' chevy i think it has spots for coolig lines to hook up.

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
Do you have all the other stuff? You know,... auto. trans. crossmember, dipstick, cooling lines, flexplate and bolts, and some kind of shifter. Also the old 3-speed crossmember is riveted to the frame, so that will have to be ground or torched off. Remote transmission coolers can be purchased at most any parts store.

Re: Tailshaft length on a 67'
Send a PM to Teeitup,... he always has lots of parts. You can also do a search in the parts section. You just can't POST in the for sale section unless you are a subscribing member. (But that's only $25 a year,... which is the best deal on the planet right now)
