Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

Hello. I have a really weird situation going with selling my truck. Basically I've listed it as a Chevy and after some research I'm pretty sure its a GMC. It also has a very odd VIN number. Its titled a 1967, but VIN says 1968 and theres a 68' bed on it. The Title also says Chevrolet on it. The VIN is KS247B129713.

I just dont want anyone misled in my auction, please take a look and tell me what you think.

Thanks,

Phil

Yep, looks like a '67 cab, with 69-72 front cap, with a '69-70 grille. I don't know my VIN's but I'm sure the "K" means 4WD. The "S" says it is a six-cylinder. The "2"...is it a 3/4-ton? The "7" may indicate 1967. The "B" indicates the plant at which it was built. The last five numbers, 29713, says it is the 29,713th vehicle assembled at that location. There are vin decoders available on-line, to tell you for sure. Oh, the bed is '68 and up, too. Looks like it was probably re-assembled from "parts", huh?

Re: Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

Yah, that's what I'm trying to figure out. When I researched the VIN it came up a GMC since the VIN didnt start with a C.

The breakdown I got is as follows: K= 4x4 S= 6 cyl 2= 3/4 ton 4= Pickup 7= Baltimore, MD B= 1968! and the remainder being the sequential number.

Its titled as a 1967 Chevrolet Pickup. I'm wondering since the vin says its a GMC 68 what the hell to do. I had no idea of any of this when I bought it or put it up for auction.

I dont know what to do here

Go to your listing and add the info.Let people know up front after your research you have determined these items and know little about the trucks previous history.Mention that you will let anyone who has already bid retract and that you are sorry for any inconvenience. You do want to keep positive feedback and don't want to mislead a potential buyer and cause other problems with the transaction.

the Vin starting with C for a chevy, and T for a GMC isn't true untill 72.
Look here to decode your VIN http://67-72chevytrucks.com/Chevyear.html
4x4, inline six, 3/4 ton, cab and bed, 1967, balt build plant, 29xxxth truck off that assembly line at that plant for that year.

Contact your local DMV and let them help address the issue. It may be a typo when they issued the title to you. I would also contact eBay and get their advice.

Re: Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

Typically this is how it works. Chev or GMC vins start with a C in 67-71 if they were 2 wheel drives ...only in 72 did they start adding an additional prefix with a T meaning GMC or a C meaning Chev. So in 72 vins start CC ( Chev) or TC (GMC) for 2 wd...for 4wd 72 vins CK or TK.

The vin plates say whether its a GMC or Chevrolet manuafactured truck. Thats your easiest solution if it should be tagged a GMC or Chev.

Basically your vins a 67 4x4 six cyl 3/4 ton 4x4 made in Baltimore.

That style of vin is more typical of the Chev in 67..GMC in 67 did some odder vin sequencing in for 1967. Chances are pretty good its a Chev without my seeing the vin
plate.

Re: Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

Thanks for the replies. I have revised the description and hopefully all bidders will be informed before they decide to bid. I will contact the DMV just to verify and Ebay to make sure everything is legit.

I really appreciate your time in helping me with this.

Re: Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

the title and VIN show it as a 68 chevy, the vin plate says chevy... by putting up anything on there about a questionable title, you will drive away 75% of your buyers, and the bidding will not go nearluy as high as it should.
There is nothing questionable about it from what you've posted.

Re: Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

So..it was originally a K20 (3/4 ton longbed 4wd)..but now it's a shortbox 1/2 ton 4wd with a '67 cab and 69-70 front clip and a 68-72 short fleetbed..And I thought my truck was bad being made from several other trucks It doesn't look that bad from the pics though..So,has the frame been shortened or was it repaced with another 4wd frame that had 1/2 ton diffs under it too?

Re: Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

I would try to remove that answer you provided in the Q&A. A mystery VIN would run me off in a heartbeat. It's a mutt, but the VIN matches the cab and title. It's probably been placed on another frame... and all that is original to the cab is the vin, but that doesn't matter.

It looks like a great truck to me. Just because it was put together from different sources, it doesn't detract from the value for me. They are all good peices. It is a good deal to me, if I was in the market.

As cdowns mentioned I would just cancel the auction and start over. I think it would be in your best interest.

Haha, I hope your right!

I just had a call about the truck and he asked about the cab corners..they are rusted out I just found out but cant revise my listing cuz theres less than 12 hours to go! Is this type of rust common on all older trucks? How much does it cost to repair the rust damage? I'm a very honest seller and would like everyone to know about this problem.. It looks solid where its attached to the frame but the cab corners are hammered. Is this safe to drive like that?

I'd say just post your response in the questions section. But, if you're really worried about it....I've seen some sellers put in their ad; "if you get here and don't like the vehicle, don't complete the deal, no hard feelings." That's kinda extreme, I think. Since you're gonna have to pay listing fees and final fees, probably $100

Re: Ebay auction disaster or ??? Please help me decide.

I had a friend of mine send the question via ebay email. So i was able to somewhat update the ad and I took pictures If anyone needs them. Seems like that should be good enough.

Just outta curiosity..what does everyone here think its worth? To me its worth about $2800. I figure another 2 g's in body work and paint and someone's got a hell of a truck for a great price.

If the buyer doesn't want what you are selling, you can get your fees back if you relist it. They just have to agree that they didn't purchase it when ebay asks them. I sold a cab on ebay 3 times before the 4th person actually took it. No one would actually come look at it before the auction ended, they just bid on it and decided they didn't want it. I petitioned ebay for the auction fees after I actually sold it, and they refunded the fees from the people who didn't want it.
I don't think it negatively affected the buyers ebay status. You may have to relist it to take advantage of this though.
