Re: 72 tilt wheel

Can't tell without seeing the lower end and the column itself. How far does the shaft stick out of the end?

Re: 72 tilt wheel

Is the electrical wiring connector flat or U shaped? Cant tell from the pics. If its a later van column it will be flat. The factory tilts will be u shaped This is one way to tell, unless its all cut up which is what appears to be the case.

Re: 72 tilt wheel

the older van tilts had the same style connector, and the old red 4 way flasher switch. Since this unit has the long shifter arm, it is going to be the real deal, or an old van unit.
The lilt and turn signal levers are correct, but if memory serves, same thing, the old van units were too. (I think)
I have no clue what the steering wheel is, it doesn't look like any van I've robbed collumns out of, nor truck obviously... and being that it is so much smaller than the long shifter on there, it didn't come on that column.
From the photos taken, it looks like atruck unit, but like mentioned before, we need to see the other end of it to be certian.

My curiosity got the best of me so I wnt to take a look, and sure enough its a flat connector , and does not have a red flasher button, (missing) It sure looked like a nice fit on blazer though. Any how can anybody use this? Thanks for all replies to all, ErnestAttachment 319418

Re: 72 tilt wheel

I could always use an extra tilt. Let us know how much shipped without the wheel.

Re: 72 tilt wheel

i zoomed in and couldn't quite tell, but I am 99% sure this is the real mc coy here.
The flat connector and flashe button... if the switch has been swapped out in the last 15 years or so, that was what they got straight from the dealer.

My truck has a U shape connector, how do they make them fit on these flat connectors, without locating and rewiring another connector,

Re: 72 tilt wheel

Anyone have a truck column out of their truck they could measure? Or does anyone have a van column they could measure? We all know the van columns are 2-4 inches longer than the truck columns right? So if we can get a valid measurement from a known column Ernest should be able to measure the one he has and tell one way or the other.

Re: 72 tilt wheel

From your picture, the column appears to be an original truck column since the shaft only sticks out a couple of inches vs the Van tilt shaft which sticks out 5-6". Also, the neutral safety switch is in the right location and there is not a slot in the column where a van switch would have been.

The shift lever has the Van style knob on it but like the wheel and turn signal switch, it could have been changed.

I think you are right! here are pics next to a non tilt out of a 71 Cheyenne, They bothmeasures 22 1/2 inches from shift indicator to neutral safety, and everything looks identical other than steering wheel. They both have the flat wiring harness unstead of the U ! Thanks again to all, I think its a keeper, ErnestAttachment 319632
