offset

I have a 72 Blazer and want to put mickey thompson classic II's with 33" BFG's, what offset should I get to make it look right. I don't want the tires tucked inside the body. Also, what's the shortest lift I could get away with, and what else would I have to change along with the lift? Thanks from the newbie!

Welcome to the board from Seattle. Post some pics of your rig when you get a chance.

Sorry, I don't know the off-set, but someone will. You can run 33's without a lift if you're running skinny tires/wheels and don't plan to do any hard core wheeling. 2" - 4" should be sufficient with some wider, meatier tires.

Welcome to the board, might I suggest taking some time and surfing through some threads, tons and tons of great info here, including the answers to the question's your asking.

A 4" back spacing is about the max, anything more and you'll hit the tie rod ends.

Lift with 33's all depends on your expected usage, give us more info to go on so we can provide better answers.

Pics are a good thing...

An 8 inch wheel with 3 1/2" backspacing works good for 33X12.50s. As far as lift, I have been running 33X12.50 BFG A/Ts on my blazer with stock suspension (no lift) for a few years and they have never rubbed. This is with mostly street and some light off-road use (never really twisted up). 33s will rub on a 4 inch lift if you really twist up the suspension.

Thanks for the info guys! I'll post pics as soon as she gets here...she's in transit from SW Missouri to NY as we speak. Only problem is I have 8" of fresh snow I don't plan on doing any off-roading with my blazer, she will be strickly on-road only. It sounds like I want mine set up like blazer1970's. Do you have pics on here? Is backspacing what you do to move the rear axle back? What is involved? I have some mechanic skill but have never done any type of lift/backspacing. I did look through most of the blazer thread, but if you find one that answers my ?'s, throw me the link! Thanks

Do your tires stick out past the fender well?

Not exactly sure because the truck is on it's way to my house as we speak. I'd like them to stick out a little past the fender...I like that look. Can you get a different back spacing for the rear rims to push them out further so they are more in line with the fronts?

Since both the Blazers and the Jimmys have an offset tire footprint (Front width is
wider than rear width) anything bigger than stock on a 8"+ rim will stick out a lil

The sidewall bulge of the front tire is probably about even with the top lip (widest part) of the fender. The rears are tucked in a couple of inches. My Blazer is in storage right now so I can't look at it easily. The tires do not have that "look" like they are sticking out. The wheels are stock 15X8 rallies that came on an '87 Suburban. They have the same offset as the older style truck rallies.

blazer 1970, nice looking blazer. what type of soft top is that. it's the nicest style i've seen.

You could run 8's and 10's if you really wanted to, and Yes it's because they are 4wd.
The 2wd's do not share the same footprint, IIRC the offset is to get better traction
