Re: 1988 trans cooler

If you have an automatic, you gotta have a cooler. If your radiator doens't have fittings, then you need an aftermarket cooler. My '96 Silverado had the towing packing, which included engine and transmission oil coolers. My '96 GMC, with V-6, doesn't have anything but the factory cooler, as equipped.

My '69 has an aftermarket cooler that I had to mount on the front side of the A/C condensor. The threads were dinged on the radiator, thanks to my own doing. I bought it at O'Reilly's and it has been trouble-free for the five years I have had it.

Re: 1988 trans cooler

You need a radiator with a cooler, an axulary cooler won't cool enough, the fluid to fluid (water) cooler is much more effecent that a fluid to air. even if your coolant tep is 190 degrees it will cool the trans fluid, an axualiry cooler is just that, when you are putting extra load on the system it will help but don't ever run just a fluid to air cooler. you'll burn up your transmission expeschialy if it is a 700r4
