Well, I'm gonna get these turbines from a friend for free. But, they're from 'those other guys' and have a 5" opening. Hub-Centric GM wheels are roughly 4 5/8 (corrected me if I'm wrong). (I've also a Chrysler spare that has a 4 3/4 opening.)

Do the Ford hubs bear the weight, i.e. hubcentric, at that size (5")? I think that the hub sizes are roughly the same as GM? Thats how Ford/Dodge D60 axles can be used on our trucks. If not hub-centric, then the lugs must carry the weight. So then, why can't these safely be used on GM hubs?

Or, is it more a matter of centering these wheels on a hub that is smaller than its' opening? These turbines have a flat lug nut surface. The Chrysler spare and GM spare (both steel) have beveled lug nut surfaces... I suppose these are for acorn style lug nuts?

I just wanna use these wheels!

if im not mistaken, the correct lug nuts for those have a shank that goes down into the lug hole, which carries the weight and centers the wheel. then the washer/nut holds it tight to the hub

And you can go into any big tire and wheel store, and ask them for 'hub centric rings'.
I had some custom made for running BMW wheels on my Firebird, and it took such a long time, they felt bad and gave em to me for free.

The lug nuts will center those wheels OK as long as you have the correct nuts with the right taper for the wheel.

With an 8-lug wheel, I wouldn't sweat it at all. The shank of the nuts will center the wheel and 8 studs are plenty to hold it on.

They only ever sold custom wheels with a one size fits all center.We never gave it a second thought and I`ve never had a problem or know anyone who has with it.

Yeah, the more reading I do on the web the more I find that the hub-centric wheels were mainly to CENTER the wheel on the hub, not to carry the weight. Other, 'lug-centric' wheels are centered by the lug nuts. Hub-centric rings are made with plastic, some aluminum. They are used to center the wheel. Don't know if the GM wheel was specifically manufactured to carry the weight.

I can't imagine a reasonable load snapping 8 lugs a side. For example, 8,000 lbs would be 500lbs on each lug.... I wouldn't think that would be enough to shear the lugs.

When you do bolt them up do NOT forget to retorque the bolts after a few hundred miles.

Most after market wheel have the center opening bigger than the hub, that is how the center cap fits. On an 8-lugger don't sweat it!! I'd love to have a set of those on my 07 dodge, except they need to be 17 in diameter to clear the brakes!
