pitman/idler arm brands

I was looking at rock auto for pitman and idler arms. Is Moog really worth more than triple the money of the Spicer "Red label service grade." What could possibly be all that different? For example the moog pitman is $53.00 whereas the Spicer is $17.00

Opinions???

LMC had good prices too. Does anybody know what brand they would be? GM?

Moog is the best made. In my opinion, they are worth the higher price over other brands.

when i was doing my front suspension i bought the oreily circle something brand they would not fit we even tried different part #'s.i took it all back and bought trw brand at advance autoparts it all fit perfect. next time i will use moog i will never buy cheap suspension parts again for that and safty reasons also.

I rebuilt mine using all O'Reilly Auto Drive brand. Everything fit/worked well. I will agree with TxFirefighter that Moog is the best you can get hands down. I just didn't have the money so I went with a house brand instead.

I am using all Autozone stuff myself and have no fitment issues. I have used it on other trucks as well with no problems. As far as safety they have to comply with the same standards as the expensive ones and I can think of better things to do with the money other then paying for the name.

Yes and no.

Get them to lay a Moog idler arm next to a house brand arm on the counter. The Moog idler arm will be nearly twice as massive as the house brand. They may both fit the same, but the quality is different.

The house brand may be safe, but Moog prides themselves on their parts being "problem solver". They make them much more massive than original parts were. They even stamp the problem solver onto the part to assure you of the difference.

When you see them side by side, the extra beef is undeniable.

To each his own. I beat the living hell out of my suspension before my restore and never bent a pitman/idler arm, I never even greased the darn thing other then the initial install so to me it was worth saving the money.

I worked at a parts store for a while, and personally I would only pick MOOG. Ask your local parts store about the warranty, I believe that MOOG has started doing lifetime warranty on all of their "problem solver" parts. I just replaced 4 balljoints in my sister's blazer, and all of them were cheap brands, and less than 2 years old. Just my .02

Feel free to chime in about the MOOG warranty, i'm interested if anyone else has heard of this too.

of course we all want the best. i drive my trucks daily 8 months a year 10 -20000 miles so i don't skimp on brake and suspension parts and i skip all the bling but i think you have to take into concideration how much you drive your truck. many will totaly rebuild there truck and never put 1,000 miles a year or ever another 20,000 miles on it. if thats the case save the money and buy the shiny sh!! you want to make it pretty

get the cheap stuff and if it fails going down the road at 80mph anbd you survive then you can use the good stuff later on

The only thing left original on my front end is the control arms. The rest was replaced by MOOG parts and belltech spindles.
