Re: wheres a good place to put a gas tank

Before deciding on a location for the tank on a 69 build, I searched for gas tank move and location. I found many pictures already posted that helped make my decision.
Have you slain any this season. I have to stay close to my wife this season due to health reasons, so I have not seen any legal to slay so far this year. We now are limited to 13" antler spread minimun, and the does just looked to small. My son hunted my spot this year and has tagged out. Last one I killed was with the 69 beater farm truck I drive locally.

Re: wheres a good place to put a gas tank

Mine is a 2 liter bottle with the top cut off, I built a special bracket to hold it on the header and real tight up against the block. I used some left over plastic tubing from my oil pressure guage for fuel line. And its all just gravity feeding into the top of the carb. I havent had a chance to fire up the engine with the new setup yet, but I dont foresee any problems....

Any other place but the outside of the frame rails like the '73-'87 GM trucks. I wonder if GM learned its lesson? Maybe the tank in the cab wasn't such a terrible place afterall...

In the cab. It`s a great design that leaves a place for the spare tire under the bed.It takes no effort and doesn`t leave you asking,"where`s a good place for my spare?"Holds 22 gallons, too.

is it sticking out of the hood? i would do that and conceal it inside an 80's style snorkel hoodscoop to get a full "gravity feed" effect

Re: wheres a good place to put a gas tank

I have been wrestling with this same thing. I want storage room behind the seat, and I want a real spare. What was so wrong with the 73-87 cylinder hanging outside the rails? I had one and liked it there. I was thinking maybe in an accident it could rupture, but I would (in this case) build a cage around it or something. There isn't a really good place for one. I sure as hell am not giving up the bed, although that's another option for the OP.

Re: wheres a good place to put a gas tank

They run up under the cab.The cab floors are raised under the seat to fit the tank. How about the dual aftermarket auxilary tanks?

Re: wheres a good place to put a gas tank

I haven't seen too many of those available. How much are they typically? Are they connected or do you have to fill two?

I was thinking about buying two little cylindrical plastic ones from speedway motors and connecting them like that so you only had to fill one. They are like $40 a piece.

Apologies to the OP if I am hijacking but I hope this helps him too.

Re: wheres a good place to put a gas tank

I never did like 22 gallons of fuel riding in the cab with me! My longhorn has a 16 gallon Jazz fuel cell under the rear of the bed.....IMO, it safer, & adds weight to the rear where its sorely needed to help with traction L

Re: wheres a good place to put a gas tank

i'd keep it in the cab , in a four wheel drive application . especialy a long box . where you see any off roading , i would hate to think you drag you ass and puncture it . many times ive drug my rear bumper , unless you have a good skid plate , it would be leaking and make a mess on the trail and spoil your day .now on a street driven two wheel drive or even four wheel drive, i have no complaints to move it out back .

I knew about that a little bit but like I said I would build a cage of sorts around it. Is it still a bad idea?

Not trying to argue, I appreciate you worrying about me (sorta)
