Cigarette Ligher Install
I have what looks like a new cigarette lighter but the last owner did not complete the wiring. There is a red wire that I assume goes to the lighter socket on the fuse panel. The blue wire has a male circular plug that is unclear where it should go. My guess would be that it needs to be changed to a female blade plug and put into the lamp blade on the fuse panel. And then there is a male blade coming off of the lighter with no wire. Is this a ground and if so where is the stock grounding location?
Thanks, Whit |

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
All you need is the red wire clipped to the back iirc. Don't know about a blue wire?

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
You have a lighter made to fit anything. Red wire to fuse panel-blue wire is for grounding when mounted in plastic dashes. (hook red wire up and see if it works-if not ground blue with a screw to dash.

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
I just got my cig lighter today. Yes, the blue wire is for the built in light. It needs to be connected to the fuse panel. As the others said, it is grounded through the steel in the dash when mounted.

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
Hate to resurrect this from the dead, but where does this blue wire attach to the fuse block?
Tks. sb

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
The light is the blue wire. Kind of cheezy, I tossed mine. I don't remember the originals having this. I could be wrong but my truck is not stock so this is not that important to me.
esll.

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
Look on the fuse box for a spade terminal for cluster feed. That will turn light on when light switch is turned on.

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
i just splice the lamp wire into the lights on the heater control so as to limit the clutter at the fuse panel for a cleaner look// would also run a black wire from the empty lug to assure a better ground and working lighter as i've seen a number of aftermarket lighters that dont ground as good to the dash as the OEM lighters did

Re: Cigarette Ligher Install
no clue why some did and some didn't, but the light in the lighter idea is a stock one. One of mine had it, and I've seen it on many others. As original it is a green wire for the light.
Plug it into the cluster feed, as mentioned above, and the light in the lighter will work with the dash lights. |
