NG intro
I ran across this place a couple of months ago when I started looking for a new project.I haven't owned a GM product for 19 yrs.Last one was a new 1983 C10 with a 305,4brl,auto.paid 6800.00.Kept it till 1988 only had 18k on it when I sold it.It was used for towing our stock car on Saturdays only. Now for 2007 I wanted a stepside didn't care what year.I found this truck the otherday. The ad said 1986 Chevy, needs some repair. So I e-mailed the seller for pictures.Well it looked really good.So looked at it this past Sat and bought it.Its a 1 owner 5.7l,700 trans,A/C and 1 small spot of rust in the right cab corner. It has had a new fuel tank,A/C compressor, and tires this past summer.Looks like a couple of years ago a repaint. The repair needed is heater core and the valve cover gaskets leaking (very slightly) and the old dual exhaust has a baffle or something rattling in the muffler. So I have a good solid truck to work with.My plans are to get it running as efficienly as possible.Super clean and detailed.I want to lower it but still be able to haul and tow a trailor once and a while. My main hobby is V-twins.Looking forward to imput from here.I retired about 2 years ago.27 years turning a wrench as a Chrysler Dealer Tech.Sorry about the long first post. Here are pictures of the truck before bringing it home.Ken

Re: NG intro
Its just been since the old owner bought a new truck has this one sat out side. The dash pad isn't cracked.Really amazing for a Florida truck.I did find a bunch of project trucks sitting around while I was looking around my area. One is a 82 stepside completely torn down to bare frame and sheet metal sandblasted. No drivetrain.Guy wanted 500.00 for it.There is another 82-87 stepside setting behind a guys house faded paint and sunbaked.I have tried to make contact on that one but still no luck. Now I just want the bed. Also found a 67-69 short stepside just down the street.Been setting there a while.I never noticed it.They don't want to talk about it neither.I left my number. Now I just need to dump a 84 F150 I have been driving here lately. Its a good home depot truck that about it.Talk about gas hog 300 6 oh my.I'm also glad Florida doesn't have emissions inspection anymore.I can open up this truck so it can breathe.

Re: NG intro
Been working on the truck here and there.Hope to have carpet installed this weekend. Was wondering about the door latches. You have to really slam the door to shut.It seam like its to air tight. But the door opening weather seals are showing there age.Are the door latches prone to wear out. They seam to work correctly and nothing loose or rattling around found.I was thinking of pulling door panel and removing latches and doing a good cleaning and lube. The door have a good gap all around so a adjustment issue I doubt.Took it over to the exhaust shop for the exhaust est.$250.00 out the door. With quiet mufflers.I'm still kicking the header thing around.Looks like 80's this weekend so I'll get a lot done.

welcome to the boards -- i hope you dont find them as addictive as i do -- (about an hour a day-- worse than a beer and gambling habit) but if you have a question, you can usually get an answer within a day or two, max. Great bunch of guys As far as headers on a daily driver -- well, since you have stock car experience, you know how those things can be to deal with at times -- but i searched every salvage yard in town looking for 454 manifolds to keep from using headers, but finally gave up and got some Hedmans |

Re: NG intro
welcome to the board, nice truck. Sounds like you'll have it where you want it in no time, with your experience. I chose a 2 1/2 front, 4 rear inch drop for my 73 short wide. It leveled it out nicely with a nice stance, but it didn't change the geometry of the original suspension, so you can still haul some stuff in it. I ordered my kit from sport direct, wich included drop spindles in front and shackles and spring hangers in the rear, and was satisfied with the parts. Good luck and I look forward to seeing more. Bob

Re: NG intro
2 the board,
That's a good lookin' truck you have! I bought my truck new and the doors have to be slamed to close them when the window's are up the cab is very air tight and will cause a compression effect when you close the door's with the window's up crack one and see if it will close normal. You can drop that truck 3/4 and still be able to tow with it i use to tow with mine years ago and never had any issues i have since removed the receiver cuz i just didn't want to tow anything for anyone any more. |

Re: NG intro
welcome also from Va.
nice find / Iagree with the others - a 2.5 / 4 drop will work fine for what you want. Have to crack my window also to keep from slamming door to close. |

Pelle... have you thought about doing a custom job to pair up with your shovelhead? Would make a nice pair when youre hauling the bike around.
