I got my Son and I a '67 C10 Stepside Longbed 2wd (long-step??). He would like it to be a 4x4, the body is rust-free I can't believe it !! So which frame's should I be looking at??

Suburban '67-72 and / or '73-80 ??
Pickup '67-72 (longbed) or '73-80 ??

Any others?? Is the '73-80 a tougher deal because of cab-mounts, etc...??

Thanks guys in advance !! I'm new here and when we start, we'll do a picture-story of the restoration...

Really,any 4wd 67-72 frame can be used if you can lengthen or shorten the chassis and move body mounts..69-72 4wd frames are better than 67-68s though but the 67-68 frames can be used..73-87 frames can be used too but you have to shorten the chassis if it's a long bed just so your long bed will fit on there w/ out a big gap between the cab and bed.Same for a shortbed,a shortbed 73-87 chassis is longer than a 67-72 shortbed chassis...Same on a blazer chassis too.You will also have to change out body mounts if using a 73-87 chassis,and due to the frame design,will probably have to use a body lift...Easiest way-find a 67-72 4wd longbed chassis..second-find any 67-72 4wd chassis and modify to use.Last resort-find a chassis from a different era to use.

Is the long step wheelbase longer than the long fleet wheel base?

Nope..as long as they are both 67-72 frames.Same frames,same mounts.

I thought I read some where that the long steps were the same wheelbase lenght as the longhorn. I'll see if I can find it.

I found it. The web site is antiquechevytrucks.com. It stated that stepsides were available in 1/2, 3/4 and 1 ton with wheelbases of 116", 127" and 133". If this is correct, the answer is... (yes and no)?

There was a 9' stepside bed for the one tons..It was only on the one ton chassis though.There was a short step bed for 1/2 tons (short wheel base),long step bed for 1/2 and 3/4 tons (Long wheel base),and the 9' stepbed on the one tons.The 9' stepbed was longer of course since the one ton chassis was longer.

Are you doing pure resto or are you going to take this thing offroading? If you are going with the latter, I would look at using a 73 and up 1 ton 4x4 frame, much stronger than the half and 3/4 ton frames.

Just a good 4x4 for a young man. We do want it to last, but it probably wont be off-roaded real hard...

Why the name 'Exxon Valdez', does that Ford leak a bit of oil?? haha?!

personally, i would look for a 71-72 rolling chassis, they have more bracing around the rear spring hangers, disc brakes in front, 205 transfer case all standard equipment. your existing body would be a direct bolt-on. the only body mod you might need to do is a high hump if you truck doesn't have one already--if it's a 4 speed, it'll have a high hump already.

This '67 IS a 4-speed and 6-cylinder. And if a larger hump WERE needed, a guy I know got around it with a small body-lift I think 2" is all.

Jerry`s right.Your cab is the same as a 4wd...there are only two types.You`ll need 4wd cab mounts,though.I have a 2wd body on a 4wd frame and only the VIN gives it away.We have a recent resident body-swapper here on the sight.I won`t mention any names,but his initials are JoesJunk.Search his threads and check it out.
These 8' Steepers look great as 4wds.I think there`s a picture "sticky" in the 4wd that`ll have some inspiring examples.

So...you have one of the best RVs ever made?Or,am I mistaken?I think you should show that thing off.BTW,nice find on the`67.

He's not planning on doing this for for quite awhile though

That is a nice truck to start a 4x conversion on. I like the bumper on the back. Do you have any more pics of it? I'm looking for ideas for my truck, when it comes time for the rear bumper.

A guy here in town has a '67 4x4 and my son (10) loves it. Gotta admit, the truck is kind of long, might look a lot better as a 4x4...
