Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
I totally agree. The right vehicles can pull them off. That red one at the top looks sweet. My dad said the same thing he says about almost every other truck i show him. "It sits a little low" He hates lowered trucks. lol. I like em low. Not a big fan of the Grand Slam low. 2in in the front and 3-4 in the rear is more than plenty. Im worried about lowering mine though because my hedders are already really close to the ground. Thats why i started investigating sidepipes. Its an excuse to get some shorter hedders. lol.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
I've seen a few people on this board cut holes and weld 'support' pipes in their cross member so that they can run the exhaust a little higher for more ground clearance.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
I think next time my exhaust gets redone its going through the cross members with new shorty headers and maybe the flowmaster 40's. Especially since it will be 2 and 4" lower. Im not gonna cheat this time, its going all the way out the back instead of turning out the side. I like it but i dont. lol. i know...im wierd.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
Lakes pipes and a suede finish with a bonneville stance and some Hallibrand wheels (or some other old school setup) wouldlook very cool

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
If you think sidepipes are odd than you should've seen my parts truck with semi stacks coming out the bed.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
The dodge Little Red Express pickup made in 78 to 80 came with stacks from factory. Wasn't bad but I don't think I'd want them on mine.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
i have seen a few Little Reds and i really like them, but i think that with all the big diesels doing stacks it would make people think i was trying to blow black smoke up their rears if ya know what i mean

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
Hey, Jim....what about some of the "old school" dumps? Remember those that were welded to the exhaust pipe that usually were dumped in the front fender well, right behind the tire? It wasn't difficult to do on the X-framed GM cars from '58-61. But on our trucks, I'm thinkin' maybe one of those "bypass" items that attaches to the header collector outlet, and goes off to one side, with a cap, to give you an option to "make it run, or make it LOUD!"

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
Oh yeah, I remember the 'dumps'. They were a lot easier to uncap than jacking it up and uncorking the headers. Had a "I can play if I want" look about it.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
I have had sidepipes on another car and they are a LOUD, REALLY LOUD, OBNOXIOUS mess to deal with. The bends necessary to hook them up have a tendency to rust out, because of the lack of draining of water in that area. The pipes look good only on an older vette. The burns on the side of your leg will go away, soon.
However, you try them out and see if you like them. |

On our trucks, I'd go with one of the aftermarket devices that would become part of the system after the headers and form a "Y". Look at Summit and they have them.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
The updated QTP dumps are the way of the new millenium. These dump when you want them and not when you need quite. Hell, even Stacey David put them on "Copperhead" for his exhaust system.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
i have never burnt my leg. I often get out after a twenty minute drive and put my hand on the outer metal and its never more than warm. Never a burn. only if you touch the actual pipe that the exhaust fumes run through will you get burnt.

Re: Anyone ever do sidepipes?
That first set looks like the C3 Corvette Hookers - I wonder if they could be made to fit...
