`67 GMC Motor Question...
In another thread about 305 and 351 differences I read something I`m not sure I understood correctly.Did 1967 GMC light trucks come with V8s that year?I interpreted a statement from a knowledgable guy to say that.I never got a response and can`t find the thread now.

I thought there was an Invader 327 offered that year? No?

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
283 V8s were an available option if you wanted more than the 230 or 250 I6 - C and K models.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
It's true! GMC made no pickups from '60 to '67 with V-8's, only the V-6 or straight 6. The exception was '67 panels and Suburbans. In Canada, they did offer 283's and 327's in pickups because GM built all the Canadian Chevy and GMC trucks in the same plant, and the only difference was the grille and nameplates. Both the '67 shop manual and sales brochures show no V-8's in pickups.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
Yes, GMC introduced the 283 and the 327 V8's as well as the 292 in midyear 1967. It is not listed in sales brochures because they are printed in August of previous year.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
I saw a '67 Canadian GMC pickup brochure, and it didn't show the V-6 which was not available in light duty Canadian trucks.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
I just saw a 67 GMC Burban Saturday that had a 283 in it. It was a 2bbl carb w/ 400 trans. First time I'd ever seen the kickdown switch for a 2bbl.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
i like the gmc literature you have. I think i will show it to a couple of know-it-alls that i cant convince that that gm had a 305 and 351 v6 i have a friend that cant wrap his head around the idea that they made a 305 v6 and v8. he also cant imagine that they would make a 351 v6 if ford had a v8 the same size. he seems intelligent and knows more about cars than i do but must think that cubic inch displacements are copywrited

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
My '67 still has the label on the glove box door, and lists a 327. It's got a 350 now.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
I guessed the 327 was the biggest engine available for '67 1st.
I win!

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
interesting that there is a 230 inline listed there. Chevys didn't get them, and I had been lead to believe the GMCs didn't either.

My 67 GMC 1/2 ton came with a 351 V6, turbo 400 tranny, and a Dana 44 posi with 308 gears.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
The 1/2 ton to 1 ton class refers to the full line which includes the 1/2 ton "Handi-Van", the small flat front end van, which had the 230 six standard. The base 1/2 ton pickup would have had a 250.

Re: `67 GMC Motor Question...
ahhhhh, that explains it. I do recall hearing of a 230 in a chevy step van of this era too.
