removing electronic carb and smog
I am removing the electronic quadrajet and smog set up from my truck. I installed an aluminum intake and edelbrock carb. I got the truck running but I have an engine light. I would like to eliminate all the smog parts(California Truck)but I am not sure what to remove. My distributor has extra wires so I guess I will have to replace it with a non computer type HEI. Does anyone have any info on what else I need to do to make it run right. Thanks for any help.

Re: removing electronic carb and smog
As far as the computer controlled HEI goes, you can unplug the 4 wire connector and hook wire A and wire C together. I have done this to my 86, and then your just bypassing the computer. You just set the timing like an older style hei. If someone else knows a different way please chime in. Kaysen

Re: removing electronic carb and smog
I removed the smog pump, all vacuum lines. They were brittle.I ran vacuum line to the dist, choke pull off,HVAC vacuum canister.Pluged the rest.Removed all unused soleniods, switches.I didn't mess with the dist wiring yet.I will tie A&C together tomorrow and retime.I have no lights on.Mines a 86.I hope that helps
