Green Interior Owners, HELP!!!!

history: I have a 504 code light olive green 69 step. dash pad was toast so...... I stopped by LMC this morning to pick up some assorted hardware and a new dash pad. good so far. I open the dash pad there to check the color and it looked a bit off. didn't think that much of it. got home and matched it up to the original. WAYYYYY off. the new dash pad is more military od green while my original is more of a dark standard green (see photo below).

now the question. I found a thread requesting green interior pics.

http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...ght=green+dash

a few trucks on there looked to have new dash pads the color I need. can someone tell me where I might be able to get one that's more my color? Will I need to use ColorBond paint?

Help my fellow greenies!!!!

Re: Green Interior Owners, HELP!!!!

powell,
that's money! wished I would have taken a pic of the dash I got, just for a comparison. however, I took it back and got a black one in case I need to do a custom paint color on it. yours is a dark green. bet you have dark green flat dash paint on the top and green defroster ducts. I'll definitely check out kennystrucks.....

and your steering wheel is beautiful. what is that one out of?!

anyone else??

Re: Green Interior Owners, HELP!!!!

I'm going with light to medium tan and black on my interior. The seat and door panels in the pics are just temporary but I thought it might give you some ideas... I am doing a leather interior this winter. The combination will be mostly tan with black inserts on the seat, door panels and headliner with black carpet. I haven't chosen the colors yet but was thinking of a slightly darker tan than what is in the truck now.

Re: Green Interior Owners, HELP!!!!

That green you want isn`t reproduced in any components.Only, the olive green. Not every color made is reproduced and yet LMC makes grey that wasn`t in these trucks. You`ll need to get the match-up in a can.
That boy Powell and his steering wheels, heh heh.Gotta love it!(I have a red one like that for my`67 GMC...shhhh)

Re: Green Interior Owners, HELP!!!!

You are going to have to paint a dashpad to get the color you want, or cover it with vinyl.
DO NOT try to paint one of the new urethane pads, like those LMC, the paint won't stick.
You can use a nice original or get one of the USA made that are vinyl over foam, like the originals.
NOTE: If you care, the early dashpads were fuller and rounder in shape and also seemed to hold up better. The later years tend to warp and crack more.

Thank you, it's out of a '65 Chevelle that we painted to match. I work next to an auto paint supply store so getting colors matched is a piece of cake for me.

As special was leading to, I seem to have OCD about getting a steering wheel I like.

thanks for the heads up! the dash I got at LMC was made by "DashesDirect". yes, it did seem like a very different material from the original, guess that's because it's urethane instead of the vinyl-over-foam oe type.

Now I'm wondering if "DashesDirect" is the only maker of these replacement units, or are there others????

looks like I will looking for a vinyl paint soon. any good experiences out there??

Re: Green Interior Owners, HELP!!!!

Don't worry, the factory Olive Green color paint mixture from 71-72 is two shades. If you look at a PPG paint mixture you will see more black in 72, actually GM mixture.
