buying a truck have a few q's

actually i have one main question, im looking to buy a used 96, 97, 98 z71 truck and im wondering what you guys prefer, the manual 4x4 with the shifter or the automatic one on the dash. being a mechanic ive seen lots of the electric ones fail and the re fairly pricey to replace. whats your opinions on this. also anything else you like or dislike about these trucks?

lever, NP241 case, only thing you have to worry about with the lever one in those years is the vacuum actuator, thats all, with the pushbutton ones, you have the electronic circuits and the shift motors, and if they get out of alignment that can be a pain in the arse. plus the np241 is shared with the dodges, my 95 tahoe had the same one that my buddies mid-late 80s ramcharger had

I have one of each and I think I prefer the shifter. A friend of mine has a full size truck with the push buttons and he has had to replace the push button switches twice on it. To be fair I just rebuilt a '99 S-10 that has the push buttons so I haven't had to use it much but I got into a situation the other day that I needed the 4 wheel and it wouldn't shift into 4x4 mode. It was hard to tell from inside if it shifted or not. With the manual there is no question whether it shifts or not.

Just my 2....
