Front lift question`
hey guys/gals, got a question that is probably opposite of what is probably asked, I want to raise instead of lower the front, I got a 18 " wheels and probably too big of tires, I like the look and would rather change the front height than wheels and tires, I know this has probably been asked before , however , I looked for the thread, but no luck, I want about two to three inches, I removed the small blk 350 and installed a stock 402 in my c-20 , however when I go over a big bump, I hold my breath and crindge, because I know a tire rub is about to happen, I am cutting up tires and if its really a big bump and can actually smell rubber burning from the rub, it would be cool if it were rear rubber I was smelling, but its front rubber, not a good thing,
I am going to (until I do more research) install the correct springs, the 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons take the same springs, but engine size makes a difference, they are two different springs sm. blk. takes one type and big blk. takes another, My question is there somthing better I should know, like tubular A-arms and should I go w/ the big block springs and also spacers under the springs, or have I missed somthing, cost isnt an issue, and I am not concerned about the raising look, the rake it has now its pretty seriuos, sorta looks like a stink bug . I think it would look better raised in the front anyway. sorry for the lenghy story, but if there is a sight anyone can recomend for searching different ways of raising the front, much appreciated... Re: Front lift question`
try just doing what you said, changing to the big block springs, they shouldn't alter ride hieght too much, but they are a tougher spring, and should not compress as far.
when you say bumps, do you mean like driving down the highway, @ 60 ...or are you talking like parking lot/ back road pot holes.? ..whats throwing me is that your smell burnt rubber, and you would be going WAY too fast to smell burning rubber like that in a parking lot aha take the wheels off, and she if there isn't something you can do about the bump stops. fab something maybe that will stop the spring just before the wheel smashes into things.

Re: Front lift question`
Stepn67 , that is the thread I saw, I cant believe you found it, good job, but I guess I am not the only one that is lookin to go up instead of down, I guess I wasnt clear in my rubbing issues, it rubs at higher speeds , freeway hitt'n dips and tires touch the squirt or bolt that holds in in and if hard enough it burns rubber.
well, I will see what I can do with this sight and the few links within em. I hate to improvise the ride for height so I will need to do something. |

Re: Front lift question`
It looks like the offset is too much(not enough backspace)on the wheels.

Re: Front lift question`
Offset isnt really the issue, just too big of rims and tires for the spring front end, 18 inchers werent factory.
Stepn67, thanks again, i got some cool ideas from both the links you sent, however, fabtech arms and some of the other trick trucks on there are pretty drastic approaches, I am not jumping mountains. so I think I will probably go w/ big block springs, I also think I will go with a bag inside the springs, and if I can inflate and stiffen up spring even more , I will keep informed once done and if it works. thanks guys for the suggestions, I would really like to level truck out some though, the rake is pretty serious, rear up alot more than front, but finding out that getting front up is going to be more difficult than thought........ |

Re: Front lift question`
Well, I ended up finding exactly what I was looking for, I searched and found Rancho , makes a lifting coil, they claimed it would raise 1-4 inches, I did a meassurement before and after, I had 32 1/2 inches before spring replacement and after I ended up with about 36 inches afterwards. I was pretty happy with the results, I installed 18 inch tires and was hoping to gain some tire to fender clearance, upon test drive, I tried my darndest to get the tires to rub, I cant, Those Rancho springs raised me about 3 and a 1/2 inches total and got the clearance now. I need to have my camber reset now, just dont know of a reputable alignment shop here in orange county ca.

Re: Front lift question`
I wish I was more computer savy, I am pretty much new at all this and am still learning how to work things here and there, I wanted to share with you all some photos I shot today on my excursion, get a load of this jeep, I stopped to take a picture of it and some guy came over to me and informed me the guy that owns it got drunk and left it in neutral, I just had to shoot it.
I shot some pictures of how high the front fender is now from the tire, I cant believe the clearance I gained, those springs cost me $166.00, that is including tax, installed them in a day, no air tools and,all hand tools and some swearing. The darn u-bolts that were holding lower arms in, got stuck and bent , had to replace, but all is well now, the ride is a tad stiffer, I wish I would have done it along timeogo. Re: Front lift question`
not sure if you can see this before picture of how low the fender was before the coil spring swap? anyway, I am just so jazzed I cant hardly stand myself, I know most people are lowering there trucks, I can appreciate a lowered truck, but not a 3/4 ton, if it were a short bed 1/2 , than lowering would be in the works,
