Cool Which Tires Would Fit Best?

I just purchased some Cragar Street Pro 390's...One thing that I was wondering are the size tires to put on them. Tire sizes confuse me greatly. I am putting them on my 72 c-10 Lowered 2 1/2inch in the front and 4inch in the rear. I would like to put some hearty, tires on them also.

Which size tires (if anyone knows) that they put on a 17x8 wheel? Without having rubbage...and maintaing a good appearance.

On them curently I have the plain rally rims (15x8 with p275/60/15 BF Goodrich tires)which are rubbing due to the drop.

What are some tires ya'll have on yours?

Thanks,
Paul

Re: Which Tires Would Fit Best?

There is a lot of great info in this thread:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...t=tire+fitment

Here's mine:

Front Wheels: 17x8" with 4.5" backspacing
Front Tires: 255/50-R17
Rear Wheesl: 17x8" with 4.5" backspacing
Rear Tires: 275/55-R17

I wish I had a wider wheel in the back and will probably be changing wheels soon. The tire size in the back is also a little taller than I'd like especially on an 8" rim... A 275-50-17 would look better IMO.

Re: Which Tires Would Fit Best?

Hmmm
275/55/17 tires are not too wide for the rear? I need to keep that in mind when te wheels come in. thanks

They are definitely not too wide for my truck with the wheels I am running. Rubbing may occur if you have too much backspacing though. Do you know what backspace measurement is on the wheels you ordered?

Rubbing where? My 68 is/was dropped about 8" in the rear & I ran 275-60/15's & then 255-70/15's on 8" ralleys. The only thing that rubbed was the inside of the tire would occassionally buzz the inside of the wheel-tub from the rotted original wood floor allowing the bed to shift.

What's the back-spacing on your new wheels?

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

Re: Which Tires Would Fit Best?

The Cragar Street Pro 390 are the 17x8 4.25 inch backspacing...I would like to maintain the width of the tire I have on them now or maybe go alittle wider

I dont think it wouldbe a problem tho.

Re: Which Tires Would Fit Best?

I used to have a set of 17" wheels with 255/60/17 front and 275/60/17 rear. Here's the best pic I have of it like that.

Re: Which Tires Would Fit Best?

I just put some Cragar rally wheels with 275/60/15 tires and I was wondering does anyone know where I can get other center caps to fit them.
Looking for something more stock like PDomes7277 has on his.
