Solenoid/Starter out right?

Well after coming home from work I slept for about 4 hrs and got up and got in truck to go run errands. Well the truck has no click, nothing to attempt to start. Looks like a dead starter. Tried a hammer on solenoid and nothing. I got 10 amps showing on the gauge so I know I have plenty of power. No power drains. Just came home and parked it then came out when truck was ice cold and this happens. So I'm right in thinking starter/solenoid right? I'm thinking a heat shield this time

I just jumped the solenoid and it started spinning. So would this be a bad solenoid? When I did it, the solenoid didn't engage to the flywheel just spun.

B, you might just go ahead and pull the starter and take it to get tested.

Pull the starter and jump it with jumper cables to see if it spins.

Well it spins after taking it to get tested. Looks like either I'm wire chasing or ignition replacing. Hope just a loose wire. I'll keep you posted.

B, there is a fusible link in the wiring down by the starter. Take a test light, and probe the wire going to the start terminal on the solenoid while someone else turns the key to start. You should have power. If not, don't forget about the neutral safety switch. Wiggle the gearshift and see what happens. Otherwise, start checking the wire going into the wire loom above the starter. The fusible link shouldn't be too far away from the starter.

Well it was a $.22 fix. The smaller nut came off and broke the wire. I didn't see it before when taking it off. Replaced the nuts (double nutted this time ) and fixed the wire. Starter tested out perfect. Replaced the starter back and fired right off. Now if everything was this cheap and easy to fix.

I love the cheap fixes. Trouble is, most of the time they're not any.

Glad to hear you didn't have to redesign the world to get it fixed.
