Unhappy 97 Tahoe Braking

1997 Chevy Tahoe (Automatic tranny)- When pulling up to a stoplight or stop anywhere, and applying the brake, sometimes there is a grinding sound like the clutch isn't disengaging all the way. When this happens, I let off of the pedal a little so the engine doesn't die. This happens once every 4-5 times. Its getting worse. I think its something simple that's not causing it to disengage. The local chevy dealer thinks it might be the torque converter solenoid. I don't know if that's exactly what it is, but I'd rather fix it myself than pay him 300-500 bucks to replace a simple solenoid. Can anyone help with this?

Have someone verify that your brake lights are working ok. If the PCM never receives a signal that the brake pedal is depressed, it may keep the TCC engaged.

If that checks ok, I recommend taking it in and have it fixed. Most of the time we find more than one soleniod thats bad. There are 2 that can be a pain to remove the holding pins on. They also have updated Wiring harness for the Transmission (internal) that needs to be replaced.
